Well where else is the money supposed to come from
the same can be said for any of the other social systems we currently have
Not exactly
Welfare is intentionally uncomfortable to live off of to motivate people to get jobs
if you have a basic income that's enough to live off of so many people would stop working but the system would just collapse
thats technically not true
welfare is meant to support people
That's my whole point welfare isn't enough to live off of
the concept of it being a motivation is a social construct, and has nothing to do with its purpose or creation
neither is Basic Income
It has everything to do with the low amount they pay people
1000 a month is not a living wage, its not even half a living wage is most places
1000 a month is not even a rent check in my state
So you are saying that in a world where everything is automated it would be impossible for the human population to have all of their basic needs automatically provided for?
Yes that's my point
plus I imagine Basic Income will work very much like EBT
In specific situation you described where everything is automated then nobody has jobs
where its not ACTUAL money
its more like an expense account
Ok so....what happens when all the jobs are automated?
Mass starvation?
They're never all going to be automated
Somebody has to keep the machines running
automation rates are expected to remove over 40% of the workforce in the next 60 years
thats pretty signifigant
The same thing happened during the industrial revolution
You think we can't create sentient AI with intelligence that matches or surpasses human intelligence?
The same thing happened with computers
A bunch of people lost their jobs and then people got jobs in New fields
It was a terrible situation for the people lost their jobs for sure but all of the jobs didn't go away
"The factory of the future will have two employees. A Man, and his dog. The Man will be there to take care of the dog, the dog will be there to insure the Man doesn't touch the machines."
Look I'm not totally against welfare
I would like to see a situation where everybody has a warm place to sleep and a place to shower and use the bathroom
But I'm against them having cellphones TVs
Cable
I just think Basic Income is an idea whose time has come
meaning we'll see a form of it deployed whether we want to or not
I'm not heartless I want people to be taken care of
and we'll have to see what kind of impact it has, if its repealed or if it becomes our new truth
not saying that
