I don't think there's enough support for the idea

2019-03-14 11:53:29 UTC

but its something we'll see talked about more and more

2019-03-14 11:53:29 UTC

Nobody wants a massive tax like to pay for this

2019-03-14 11:53:46 UTC

i'd actually agree that it's not going to happen in 2020

2019-03-14 11:53:46 UTC

universal health care will still be the top issue

2019-03-14 11:54:00 UTC

That will be definitely be a big one

2019-03-14 11:54:06 UTC

I just hope we have UBI by 2040 or so

2019-03-14 11:54:30 UTC

Well I wouldn't bet on that man don't listen to politicians that promise you free stuff

2019-03-14 11:55:13 UTC

Well one state already has UBI

2019-03-14 11:55:20 UTC

although it's only like 1000 a year

2019-03-14 11:55:40 UTC

And that's the problem we could probably only afford to do a thousand a year

2019-03-14 11:55:43 UTC

do you mean Alaska?

2019-03-14 11:55:46 UTC

Yes

2019-03-14 11:55:54 UTC

because thats not exactly basic income

2019-03-14 11:56:02 UTC

I think its called a Residency credit

2019-03-14 11:56:17 UTC

and its literally Alaska paying to keep people living there

2019-03-14 11:57:13 UTC

I don't understand how people live off of $1,000 a month

2019-03-14 11:57:27 UTC

Well, it depends on what part of the country you live in

2019-03-14 11:57:34 UTC

in NYC obviously it would be impossible

2019-03-14 11:57:36 UTC

or LA

2019-03-14 11:57:41 UTC

My car payment and insurance is almost $1,000 a month

2019-03-14 11:58:06 UTC

In fact, i'd go as far as to say it's not possible anywhere on the pacific coast or north east

2019-03-14 11:58:16 UTC

but if you move to somewhere in the heartland

2019-03-14 11:58:21 UTC

a small town

2019-03-14 11:58:25 UTC

it's doable

2019-03-14 11:58:39 UTC

yeah thats fair... its impossible on the West Coast

2019-03-14 11:58:47 UTC

I have a friend in Texas that pays 400 a month for rent

2019-03-14 11:58:51 UTC

Montana, Wyoming, doable

2019-03-14 11:58:52 UTC

utilities included

2019-03-14 12:01:16 UTC

Without overtime I make about 1300 a week and I feel like I need to make more

2019-03-14 12:01:48 UTC

I can't imagine stretching one of those paychecks for an entire month

2019-03-14 12:02:49 UTC

rural America would be the area hit hardest by automation, and is being hit hard right now by the trade deficit and trade wars

2019-03-14 12:02:55 UTC

thats where Basic Income would do the most good

2019-03-14 12:03:05 UTC

metropolitan areas have other problems

2019-03-14 18:25:15 UTC

Humans are making themselves obsolete, and we don't even know what to do about it.

2019-03-15 11:23:11 UTC

Okay, so let's set a new topic. Today's topic will be: what can we do to combat teachers and tutors who do stuff like this:

2019-03-15 19:01:38 UTC

I thinhk students need to talk to other students and see how many of their classmates agree. if the teacher doesnt let them present something else, they can make it a unified sort of "protest" which can make a statement

2019-03-15 19:02:02 UTC

but as a student its tricky, you're in a position of automatic inferiority and subordinance

2019-03-15 20:02:48 UTC

There was a lot of discussion about this yesterday on the sub. What are people's thoughts?
