to the same amount of money for the same jobs does not go nearly as far
thats a big reason for the shyhigh homelessness in cali. i swear is doubled here in L.A. obviously thats not the only reason, but its a big one.
its why you hear about people 'putting themselves through college' in the 70s but nowadays you hear about people being in debt for their entire lives to student loans
and they raised the minimum wage, but what employers do now is hire more employees for part time work and just rotate them, so they save on benefits and health insurance.
I recall seeing an article that the average career to college degree ratio for payoff is 30 years
so you'll spend 30 years paying off the education you purchased to get into your career
but its been awhile since I looked at those stats
imagine doing that with a gender studies degree!
no, its still that bad.
but yeah I've been seeing discussions amongst economists that we shouldn't even be using unemployment as a factor to judge the health of an economy, mostly because its so often used as the ONLY factor so its extremely misleading
the same has been said for the health of the stock market, which is an indicator for the health of corporations but not the health of the living economy
a practical solution that would be considered unethical would be to allot free or discounted education in important fields like engineering, math, medicine, etc to those who score the highest on placement tests and are most likely to contribute to the field. but then you get into what is essentially intellectual discrimination and obvious not equitable
yeah I don't know what a solution is
I'll be interested in seeing ideas though
there isnt. people don want accept the reality that most people are not able to be as successful as they want to be. most people will be disappointed, and most people will have a lesser job than they desire.
I know its super unpopular in some circles, but I think that the idea of Basic Income could be hugely beneficial
I forgot what its buzzword is right now...
Universal Basic Income
its a good idea if it's done right, bu id like to see some sor of requirement for it, like if you're able bodied you have to do weekly community service, or prove that you're genuinely looking for work o your abiliy
oh my god my area is killing me
Area?

I like these Twitter accounts that are supposed to be cats

Hey, does anyone have any reliable stats on rape?
Basically, I've seen some that say it's 50/50 but it's hard to find it again
Men get divorce raped alot
I meant literal rape
But they do, yes.
Well to find an accurate one you not only need to include forced to penetrate as rape, but also reduce the overinflated rape statistics for women, which can often include things like having one drink and having sex= rape
