• There are no significant performance differences between
advantaged and disadvantaged students, or between immigrant
and non-immigrant students, after accounting for performance
in science, reading and mathematics. But girls still score 25 points higher than boys after accounting for performance in
the three core PISA subjects.
•
On average across OECD countries, the gender gap in reading
in favour of girls narrowed by 12 points between 2009 and
2015: boys’ performance improved, particularly among the
highest-achieving boys, while girls’ performance deteriorated,
particularly among the lowest-achieving girls.
That last one is interesting because the 2009 report found no improvement for the gender gap in reading between 2000 and 2009
Doesn't take a second of turning on bbc parliament to hear an MP call for a rememberance of the people killed in a NI terrorist attack which happened x number of years ago today, and of course he has to say at the end of when listing the types of people killed "and, most sadly, six were young women". Well Fuck you too.
I wish i wrote down his name, he hasn't said anything else yet
He sounds pretty awful
Moved onto a debate on the brexit deal now
This. This is perfect
For what?
To piss off feminists
Pretty amusing idea, although this is a politically diverse channel so you may find people outraged at the Republican bit!
Which one is republicans again?
I hope it's the party dedicated to doing up pubs so we can have a proper smash up
This party is one I can support
How many people here would say RAINN is a reliable source for statistics?
Please say why or why not :3
It’s hard to say, they seem unbiased but I wouldn’t know just by looking at their website
Maybe
"90% of adult rape victims are female." - RAINN
So, reliable source for statistics?
"Only 230 out of every 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to police. That means about 3 out of 4 go unreported."...
Individuals of college-age:
Female Students: 20% report
Female Non-Students: 32% report
So
Yeah
I was asking because I just looked into the source of one of their studies, I like the statistic there that shows that women are less likely to be assaulted on campus than outside it. But I definitely took exception to the percentage of women it said were raped. The study done for it was based off a survey and didn't include terms like rape or assault. Plus the survey questions are hidden in a 300 page study
Yeah, that's sounds like what Hannah calls the Koss method
basically the researchers ask questions and call things sexual assault or rape, even if the "victim" doesn't identify it as such and continues a long-term relationship with the perpetrator
using broad definitions
Certainly seems to be the case, similar to asking 'have you had sex after you've had an alcoholic beverage' and answering yes = 'you are a rape victim'
I definitely wanted other people's opinions and experiences with RAINN though, perhaps some things they publish are better than others
I dunno, I think if you ever publish "90% of rape victims are women" you only have a cursory understanding of the issue, which is a problem for an organization with a name like RAINN
Certainly not a good indicator, I was just erring on the side of caution before coating them in tar and grabbing some feathers
Yeah, I just put them through my browser history and found those
That's on Men's Rights too
There are a lot of bs flying there in the worldnews thread... Like 94 out of 100 rapists walk free
That rubbish again?
@Indigo there's a little bit of that in that thread, thankfully a lot of it is being argued against, and there's way more in other threads. Only two comment chains
