From oxford dictionaries “fun” arises from the late 17th century and unless the translations I’ve been reading are terrible, “fun” is used in war and peace pretty extensively. Also I have no idea why people divorce long term achievement and fun. Accomplishing your goals is enjoyable, progress towards that same. I don’t get this self-flagellation that people put themselves through thinking they either have to be dour, spiritually pure aescetics who hate all fun or obese drunks slamming hookers and injecting meth into their eye. You can be happy and be a good person.
@Milan Ah, no. That's just to mock Bearing over here. Your points are more than valid and, as an Orthodox myself, "fun" in no way can be strived towards as a higher goal.
I wouldn't say "fun" in and of itself, however, is a new discovery, nor that it is not a good thing in moderation, but my views are clearly quite different from the views of more radical Orthodoxes.
Basically what Crono said.
@Orwell wanting to live past your natural lifespan is degeneracy in of itself
If you're 80 and need a walker
