suppress them with naval gun fire as they try to cross
Edgy.
The Royal Navy's role was to prevent foreign elements from landing upon Britain's shores, right?
Well....
lmao don't try to argue anything with Runes.
Even something as cut and dry as "The RN was meant to defend British shores and foreign interests while acting as an extension of the will of the crown"
While it would be well within the rights of a nation to fire on people attempting to forcibly and illegaly cross their borders.
I have questions about that first bit
That's 1984 as fuck
I want a citation
It'd be aesthetic as fuck if the HMS Dreadnought was still afloat, and they could roll her out to patrol the English Channel against migrant botes.
Her armament is perfectly suited to taking out large numbers of small targets
Or rather, her armament *was* suited.
Is that a viable reason to build battleships? I think YES
Dreadnoughts, actually.
There's 3 general classifications of gunnery capital ships
Pre-dreads, which were... honestly terrible. Dreadnoughts, which introduced superfiring turrets while maintaining the immense secondary battery of the pre-dread era. And finally Battleships, which were designed to forgo secondary battery firepower in exchange for larger main battery guns and high speeds.
I dunno
Pretty sure you’re just trying to stir shit
Also German battleships reject your ideas
Or the nips with their weird fixed gun secondaires
Well the IJN was using up gunned battlecruisers]
And they still held on to the ideals of WWI
Whereas literally none of the German capitals fit in to a standard definition
Like, none of them
Germany stronk
Scharnhorst was more battlecruiser than battleship
Tfw I'll never get to have a sharnhorst battle cruiser
But it wasn't a battlecruiser because it had too much armor
Or a grosserkurfurst
But the guns weren't big enough to be a BB
And then it had enough secondary guns to level a small fleet
but it was battlecruiser fast
Yeah but so were the Bismarcks
Can we just appreciate how mental the German engineers were who developed these
Which is why they defied classification, hilariously enough.
lol
Like turtle back armor is a pretty fucking lit concept
Turtleback is half the reason the Germans could continue using traditional armor layouts
