That's 1984 as fuck

2018-12-02 19:36:18 UTC

I want a citation

2018-12-02 19:37:52 UTC

It'd be aesthetic as fuck if the HMS Dreadnought was still afloat, and they could roll her out to patrol the English Channel against migrant botes.

2018-12-02 19:38:11 UTC

Her armament is perfectly suited to taking out large numbers of small targets

2018-12-02 19:38:44 UTC

Or rather, her armament *was* suited.

2018-12-02 19:40:26 UTC

Is that a viable reason to build battleships? I think YES

2018-12-02 19:42:21 UTC

Dreadnoughts, actually.

2018-12-02 19:42:52 UTC

There's 3 general classifications of gunnery capital ships

2018-12-02 19:44:09 UTC

Pre-dreads, which were... honestly terrible. Dreadnoughts, which introduced superfiring turrets while maintaining the immense secondary battery of the pre-dread era. And finally Battleships, which were designed to forgo secondary battery firepower in exchange for larger main battery guns and high speeds.

2018-12-02 19:45:46 UTC

@RoflTank who is arguing with me?

2018-12-02 19:45:59 UTC

I dunno

2018-12-02 19:46:08 UTC

Pretty sure you’re just trying to stir shit

2018-12-02 19:46:19 UTC

I don't have a spoon buddy

2018-12-02 19:46:23 UTC

Also German battleships reject your ideas

2018-12-02 19:46:38 UTC

Or the nips with their weird fixed gun secondaires

2018-12-02 19:46:56 UTC

Well the IJN was using up gunned battlecruisers]

2018-12-02 19:47:17 UTC

And they still held on to the ideals of WWI

2018-12-02 19:47:35 UTC

Whereas literally none of the German capitals fit in to a standard definition

2018-12-02 19:47:41 UTC

Like, none of them

2018-12-02 19:47:46 UTC

Germany stronk

2018-12-02 19:47:53 UTC

Scharnhorst was more battlecruiser than battleship

2018-12-02 19:48:02 UTC

Tfw I'll never get to have a sharnhorst battle cruiser

2018-12-02 19:48:05 UTC

But it wasn't a battlecruiser because it had too much armor

2018-12-02 19:48:12 UTC

Or a grosserkurfurst

2018-12-02 19:48:13 UTC

But the guns weren't big enough to be a BB

2018-12-02 19:48:24 UTC

And then it had enough secondary guns to level a small fleet

2018-12-02 19:48:25 UTC

but it was battlecruiser fast

2018-12-02 19:48:36 UTC

Yeah but so were the Bismarcks

2018-12-02 19:48:57 UTC

Can we just appreciate how mental the German engineers were who developed these

2018-12-02 19:48:59 UTC

Which is why they defied classification, hilariously enough.

2018-12-02 19:49:00 UTC

lol

2018-12-02 19:49:11 UTC

Like turtle back armor is a pretty fucking lit concept

2018-12-02 19:49:27 UTC

Turtleback is half the reason the Germans could continue using traditional armor layouts

2018-12-02 19:49:28 UTC

Then you throw on enough armor and guns to level fleets

2018-12-02 19:49:37 UTC

Oh and let's just fucking make it fast too

2018-12-02 19:49:43 UTC

Whereas everybody else was like "nah fam all or nothing"

2018-12-02 19:51:01 UTC

Germany be like "hold my beer I'm going to do German things"

2018-12-02 19:51:08 UTC

Pretty much

2018-12-02 19:51:18 UTC

I mean look at the Panzerschiff

2018-12-02 19:51:27 UTC

What even is that

2018-12-02 19:52:05 UTC

Is it a BB? Guns are there, armor's not. Is it a BC? Not enough displacement. It's too well armed to be a CA, but it can move like a CL.
