Proper names are the ones that are ALWAYS capitalised

2020-01-16 18:08:58 UTC

Common names are not capitalised

2020-01-16 18:09:08 UTC

ok so I should go back and uncapitalise it?

2020-01-16 18:09:24 UTC

yeah, I supposed so.

2020-01-16 18:11:51 UTC

need help for the accent of "sacré"?

2020-01-16 18:11:57 UTC

copy/paste it

2020-01-16 18:12:03 UTC

already done

2020-01-16 18:12:06 UTC

cool

2020-01-16 18:12:37 UTC

hmmmm

2020-01-16 18:12:48 UTC

I've checked the lyrics on a website.

2020-01-16 18:13:00 UTC

And they're missing

2020-01-16 18:13:06 UTC

Aren't they?

2020-01-16 18:14:04 UTC

on a website, there's a German translation and the part in French in translated in German but ends up with a a different meaning

2020-01-16 18:14:26 UTC

hmmm

2020-01-16 18:14:35 UTC

the French bit present is a bit trash

2020-01-16 18:14:58 UTC

..... it's not "Vive LA sacré"

2020-01-16 18:15:23 UTC

What would vive la sacre mean?

2020-01-16 18:15:39 UTC

it's "LE"............ BUT seeing the "Mercenaires" part put WITH that otehr part.....

2020-01-16 18:15:40 UTC

Would it just be a confused fuck of bad translation?

2020-01-16 18:16:23 UTC

so, if they are supposed to be put together, that changes some things

2020-01-16 18:17:15 UTC

if they are supposed to be put together, it would be "Vive les sacrés mercenaires!"

2020-01-16 18:18:04 UTC

You're a native English speaker, right?

2020-01-16 18:19:39 UTC

I doubt "Hail the war" sounds all that right.... right?

2020-01-16 18:22:07 UTC

.... but yeah, in the French translation screenshot, there are some other errors. "Mort" and "Guerre" being capitalised.
The capital letters point to Death (as in the personification) and something like THE war (instead of The Great War, here it's just the War).

2020-01-16 18:22:15 UTC
2020-01-16 18:23:05 UTC

"Vive les sacrés mercenaires!"
that's the correct translation for the last bit

2020-01-16 18:26:35 UTC

...... now, for what it means in English.......
you're in for a ride.
it can either mean that the mercenaries are holy (but it's organised in a poetic fashion)
or it can mean "Hail the damned mercenaries" but in a friendly way. (like "Hail them gosh darned mercenaries")

2020-01-16 18:34:35 UTC

Hulkoff's work is such that saying "Long live war" and "Long live death" is not out of place

2020-01-16 18:35:08 UTC

And yeah "Hail the war" doesnt sound right, although "Long live the war" as retarded as a phrase that would be to say, is gramatically correct

2020-01-16 18:45:50 UTC

But "long live" is not the same as "vive".
It would have to be "Longue vie"

2020-01-16 18:46:50 UTC

maybe he changed the words, to get a better flow...

2020-01-16 18:47:33 UTC

Probably

2020-01-16 18:47:57 UTC

In English the French phrase "Vive la" is just used generically to mean "Long live"

2020-01-16 18:48:07 UTC

Take for example the coldplay song "Viva la vida"

2020-01-16 18:48:09 UTC

Long live life

2020-01-16 18:50:50 UTC

sure.

2020-01-17 06:09:42 UTC

The Cure is amazing in concert

2020-01-17 06:09:57 UTC

And totally underrated song
