I think it's aesthetic thing
Well, have you ever accurized a battle rifle? Its not the easiest thing.
So, you're confirming that this was a bad idea.
A battle rifle does not equal a DMR rifle
And it was pushed into DMR service
Standard M14 > EBR looks wise
The EBR was a bad idea
All around
It's like accurizing a FAL
It was pretty impressive to me at least that they took shit that was put in storage in the 80s and within 20 minutes per rifle produced a 1.5moa weapon that could be issued to a soldier
Sure. that's a logistical feat.
You’re taking a 3-4 MOA gun and kludging it into a 1.5 moa gun and expecting it to stay like that
But the problem is that it didn't stay that way
It was such a shitshow before. You'd ask for m14 and get m14 with single magazine covered in dust lmao
You need consistent performance in soldiers' hands
Something that is field servicable and durable
@keldoclock yes because you asked for an M14
Ask for more mags
Done
Tada you have a battle rifle
What's your point?
Im just saying that if you carefully put it back together and maintain the tolerances the accuracy is maintained
It's a military rifle
You damn well better make that thing boot proof
Fielded in a desert country
where everything just gets filled with sand
If a system is so fragile that removing the action one single time ruins everything, it's not appropriate for military service.
It was a 'let's do what we can do ASAP with what we have' and at the end of the day it was not a successful experiment.
I think you have perhaps too high expectations for military weapon
As long as it functions reliably some degradation in performance during lifetime is not really a big deal
...
Are you some kind of idiot?
this is a DMR rifle
It's specifically put into a position where there is a requirement of performance
M14 is shit
If it no longer performs, then it's just a big heavy battle rifle with less capacity than the guy next to you
Iron sight SVD for every russian soldier
🙆
To get what you describe out of M14 platform would require a run of new parts, new tooling etc. U.S. military wisely decided to use accurized m16 for DMR and buy precision parts from KAC and similar companies instead of building a whole new factory to make M14 DMR weapons
I’d like to point out there’s a story of a SSgt requesting an M14 for Iraqi freedom “just for the hell of it” and stacking some bodies with it.
