2018-11-17 16:11:14 UTC

What's your point?

2018-11-17 16:11:52 UTC

Im just saying that if you carefully put it back together and maintain the tolerances the accuracy is maintained

2018-11-17 16:12:01 UTC

It's a military rifle

2018-11-17 16:12:07 UTC

You damn well better make that thing boot proof

2018-11-17 16:12:21 UTC

Fielded in a desert country

2018-11-17 16:12:29 UTC

where everything just gets filled with sand

2018-11-17 16:13:43 UTC

If a system is so fragile that removing the action one single time ruins everything, it's not appropriate for military service.

2018-11-17 16:14:14 UTC

It was a 'let's do what we can do ASAP with what we have' and at the end of the day it was not a successful experiment.

2018-11-17 16:14:52 UTC

I think you have perhaps too high expectations for military weapon

2018-11-17 16:15:15 UTC

As long as it functions reliably some degradation in performance during lifetime is not really a big deal

2018-11-17 16:15:47 UTC

...

2018-11-17 16:15:54 UTC

Are you some kind of idiot?

2018-11-17 16:16:12 UTC

this is a DMR rifle

2018-11-17 16:16:26 UTC

It's specifically put into a position where there is a requirement of performance

2018-11-17 16:16:33 UTC

M14 is shit

2018-11-17 16:17:04 UTC

If it no longer performs, then it's just a big heavy battle rifle with less capacity than the guy next to you

2018-11-17 16:17:18 UTC

Iron sight SVD for every russian soldier

2018-11-17 16:17:21 UTC

🙆

2018-11-17 16:18:08 UTC

To get what you describe out of M14 platform would require a run of new parts, new tooling etc. U.S. military wisely decided to use accurized m16 for DMR and buy precision parts from KAC and similar companies instead of building a whole new factory to make M14 DMR weapons

2018-11-17 16:18:24 UTC

I’d like to point out there’s a story of a SSgt requesting an M14 for Iraqi freedom “just for the hell of it” and stacking some bodies with it.

2018-11-17 16:19:05 UTC

i don't believe u

2018-11-17 16:19:08 UTC

With bonus of less training needed, better compatibility of parts and ammo in emergencies, enemy snipers not murking the guy with the different gun first

2018-11-17 16:19:29 UTC

keld is stuck in the 60's

2018-11-17 16:19:30 UTC

nice

2018-11-17 16:19:36 UTC

The SSgt story? I saw the photos but not the kill record

2018-11-17 16:19:42 UTC

They decidedly murked the guy with the different gun first

2018-11-17 16:19:55 UTC

Because it’s very clearly not an M16 or M4

2018-11-17 16:20:13 UTC

The M14 worked as a battle rifle

2018-11-17 16:20:35 UTC

It’s not a marksman’s weapon in the state it was issued as the EBR because it didn’t stay accurate

2018-11-17 16:20:48 UTC

It didn’t even work well as a battle rifle

2018-11-17 16:21:07 UTC

As evidenced by the length of time it was in service the first time

2018-11-17 16:21:10 UTC

I said “worked” not “worked well”

2018-11-17 16:21:36 UTC

It lasted longer than the Krag

2018-11-17 16:22:18 UTC

Eeeeh it was an ok battle rifle, just almost obsolete at introduction

2018-11-17 16:25:17 UTC

Then bad

2018-11-17 16:25:22 UTC

And sort of lied to get into production anyway

2018-11-17 16:25:26 UTC

Imagine if m14 was issued in 1936

2018-11-17 16:25:34 UTC

Would have been pretty good

2018-11-17 16:25:40 UTC

also the Italians did a better job in six years than the Americans did in nine

2018-11-17 16:25:56 UTC

The BM-59 is what the M14 should have been
