“Flame weapons cause suffering” is a counterpoint I’ve often heard
Cluster munitions is understandable in that hey are hell to clean up undetonated munitions from. especially if its in a county you give a shit about
If we were serious about getting rid of terrorists, we'd clear out the entire population as Rome did
Tank crews burn to death all the time
Flamethrowers don't make sense tbh
wat
They’re extremely effective
Yes they do
Flamethrowers are highly effective at dealing with fixed positions and urban combat.
Banning them is shooting yourself in the foot if you want to clear an entrenched position
ayyy
You can literally clear a house in one spritz with a flamethrower rather than going in
Flamethrower are gimped by the fact that they make the carrier a priority target
I mean yes and no, but the fuel doesn't explode like hollywood makes it out.
The tank ruptures and you get chucked in the opposite direction, and everything is covered in fuel, but it doesn't explode.
It will sometimes burn though
Sometimes, but since napalm is diesel it's actually really hard to ignite.
And we haven’t designed a flamethrower in decades
How do you get chucked if it doesn't explode? Where's that force come from?
Propellant
Generally something pressurized
Just pressure release?
Ok
Yep
The tanks are highly pressurized to hold more fuel in less space, and remove the need to hump a compressor.
They’re also replaceable so they don’t have to be refilled
The propellant I lean
Most people don't realize almost every military flamethrower model uses a magnesium torch because it's the only way to reliably ignite the fuel
Even the Wex was fairly safe, and that was pretty much the first protable flamethrower
And it was a tube with a garden hose valve
The Russian ones were Ok, the M2 was great and so was the flammenwerfer
Weeeeeelllllll, the Flammenwerfer 41 was good. The 35 was widely regarded as trash.
Hmmm, the FmW 41 used tar-petrol fuel with a hydrogen torch. Neat.
32m range
Didn't Germany use synthetic fuel for a while due to oil shortages?
Yeah liquefied coal fuel
They dumped aromatic hydrocarbons in to it to make it work like 130PN/150PN fuel for aircraft
Actually worked really well
Yeah, I was under he impression that it did
But the question is, was it any cleaner than modern Gas and Deisel?
