I think 7 languages is too ambitious unless you plan to cut each one off at the 'Can barely hold a casual conversation' level. And then when you get to number 7 you realize you forgot most of the first 3.

Maybe, but I would question someone who has 'mastered' multiple languages. Chances are 3 of them are italian, french and spanish. If you know one you can learn the others in under a year.

But mandarin, japanese and russian you got to start from scratch each time.

Especially to develop an ear for tones. >_> Im almost 2 years into mandarin and I am still struggling and will do so for a while. I am also not at the conversational level yet. I can mostly speak in fragments.

He had a better upbringing than you. You are 7ish years behind him in just that you had to waste more time covering the same amount of schooling.

I am assuming you were educated in a public school BTW. The gap is less if you went to a private school.

Most men under the age of 50 have to undergo some period of educational deprogramming, I think.

I know the motivational tricks and where I stand relative to where he stood. I am also confident my goal of surpassing him is readily achievable.

Now, whether I can do that before my grandma dies is another story.

That's why this is a long term goal. Plus, learning Spanish means I can learn about the whole other side of my family that I never really knew.

Seeing that my mom's side is pretty much just cunts.

That also means I need to learn it sooner rather than later. Dammit.

@Revel I lack sufficient discipline and energy. I'm hoping fasting will help me regain that energy like it had in the past.
