fun
You can literally lose an hour because of a comma or parenthesis...
or semi-colon
Ive done that today

"Lose an hour" I've lost multiple days to such mistakes
lol, true.
I do PLCs and controller, and usually the compiler tells me if theres a semicolon or somthin missin
But sometimes the error is just blank
You can lose an hour because congress decides to conserve "daylight"

right, but if you do like PHP on a remote server, with output buffering, and errors suppressed, you just get a WSOD...
Thats no problem for me at least

and you don't know where the offending code is because the customer paid some indian sweatshop to do it and you're trying to trace that shit down...

outsourcing rarely works... because you do not get back a tested end product. Basically managers need to be told that they are paying for half of the product, and the other half is going to cost more.

I wrote a script to automate setting up initializing a tftp transfer using a terminal on a serial interface because the commands were repetitive
command line for the win
It saved me a lot of time, once I got it reliable I told my boss about it and he chastised me because it "wasn't my job to do that" and "if i were another supervisor i would write you up" and "you could get fired for stealing company time"
So I kept secretly using it to improve my production numbers and when people asked me how I did it I'd tell them if they knew they would get fired lmao
Seriously, there is just so much control you can put in a command line, that a GUI doesn't / can't give
Thats a weird take on it from the boss thou
Shouldnt
Everyone do that?

He didn't agree with it himself, he just knew that he would be forced to make that decision if his boss found out about it
It was a shitty place to work
@Dick Dastardly™ i am so sorry for bosses like that. So sorry you had a boss like that
I don't work there anymore
Was he old and stubborn?
<:hellyeah:480188652622970880>
No, he was basically trying to balance between not being a shitty boss and keeping his job
<:hughmungus:532086406043009024>
It was a bigger problem than just him
