It's called convergent evolution. Tasmanian Tigers looked a LOT like dogs, but are more closely related to wallabies or kangaroos than dogs.
They're also weird ones. No creature needs a mouth that wide. No wonder they're gone
I just got to pet a 10 week old groodle pup.
It was wonderful.
