Sorry 1978. That's forty years.

2018-07-20 04:02:32 UTC

After that they tried to get it to work again, but didn't really succeed until 1989's Batman movie

2018-07-20 04:03:02 UTC

That's another eleven years.

2018-07-20 04:03:44 UTC

After that they *still* had a ton of trouble translating comics to film. Which doesn't make much sense. You could Literally use a comic book as a storyboard.

2018-07-20 04:03:55 UTC

and at least part of a script.

2018-07-20 04:04:03 UTC

true

2018-07-20 04:04:56 UTC

But they kept plugging away trying to crack that nut. there were some successes (Blade, Spider-Man) but Marvel themselves eventually nailed it so Hard with Iron Man that Disney bought them.

2018-07-20 04:05:04 UTC

Since then, marvel at least has been cranking it out.

2018-07-20 04:06:08 UTC

So it took from 1938 to 2008 to really perfect superhero movies. Now it's a major part of the Hollywood landscape. Huge moneymaker.

2018-07-20 04:06:33 UTC

Now I have to ask you a terrible question. Are you Familiar with Bob Chipman?

2018-07-20 04:06:55 UTC

yeap

2018-07-20 04:07:56 UTC

That will save us some time. Watch this (cancer warning) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmXA08jzUfc

2018-07-20 04:09:31 UTC

Just as an aside let's take a moment to reflect that we live in a world where Bob Chipman Is still alive. but total busicut got butt cancer so bad it turned him into an SJW before it killed him

2018-07-20 04:09:37 UTC

Darkest freakin' timeline.

2018-07-20 04:10:33 UTC

But I don't think Bob is wrong about marvel's long term game plan.

2018-07-20 04:11:42 UTC

which is what

2018-07-20 04:12:26 UTC

Despite Japanese comics doing gangbusters in their home market and aborad. The folks working marvel probably think print media is drying. So their long term plan is movies.

2018-07-20 04:12:54 UTC

This is probably brought on by the idea that their *woke* ideas can't be failing on their own merits.

2018-07-20 04:14:26 UTC

So it's just gotta be the media is dying. So movies are the future. They gotta plan for the futre. In their minds that means they've gotta futureproof it.

2018-07-20 04:15:07 UTC

That means "diversifying" their stuff so they have a BK Kids club to replace their aging actors.

2018-07-20 04:15:42 UTC

You can actually see what they would consider a success in how much money Black Panther made.

2018-07-20 04:16:17 UTC

But here's the thing

2018-07-20 04:16:19 UTC

jesus that guy was soyyeddd

2018-07-20 04:16:23 UTC

It can't last forever

2018-07-20 04:17:27 UTC

Bob is wrong in that the diversity push is not going to make comic book movies last forever. The domestic and international markets will get sick of them at some point.

2018-07-20 04:17:49 UTC

I expect it will happen not more than a few years after avengers 4

2018-07-20 04:18:35 UTC

If they're real unlucky it will happen just as they're introducing Characters like Riri Williams and X-23 in their own solo films.

2018-07-20 04:18:44 UTC

The Chinese didn't like Black Panther much.

2018-07-20 04:18:53 UTC

That is another problem

2018-07-20 04:20:04 UTC

Maybe it's just (((hollywood's))) own doing. But a "diverse" character might have a more narrow appeal. Chinese might like x-23 (she's asian in the comics, not hispanic Progressive stack much?)

2018-07-20 04:20:14 UTC

but they won't got out for black panther.

2018-07-20 04:21:08 UTC

But thanks to a century of hollywood, EVERYONE is disposed to accepting white actors.

2018-07-20 04:21:09 UTC

lol i'm glad i have left the nerd plantation forever

2018-07-20 04:21:39 UTC

i could careless about media of any form and they can go fuck them self

Let's not even get into how they haven't accounted for how unbelieveably racist asians are against other asiains. The whole chinese/korean/japanese triad thing will likely bite them in the butt too.

2018-07-20 04:23:02 UTC

Korean Hulk? Chinese and Japanese do not want.

2018-07-20 04:23:34 UTC

I noticed Marvel set part of Dr. Strange in Hong Kong. They are trying to appeal to the Chinese market.

2018-07-20 04:24:18 UTC

Also as an aside these successor characters are all horribly concieved and written. They might get some traction placing these chacters into older stories starring the original characters. But it won't be enough.

2018-07-20 04:24:43 UTC

So long story short. because comic books are creatively stagnant the movies will eventually fail.

2018-07-20 04:24:47 UTC

This is going to create a void
