That is the bolt assembly, trigger group, and magazine for an 1891 Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle. It is originally 48.5 inches long. A common modification of this rifle is the so-called Obrez, where you saw off the barrel and stock to produce a bolt-action pistol that shoots a meter-long fireball when you pull the trigger and can't hit the broad side of a barn.
