I could do it over the next 5 years and cash flow the entire thing. My company will pay for part of it as well.
@machtyn I'm not sure. Do you intend on designing things or becoming like a welding engineer or something, so you can write WPS and stuff?
That's like for mechanical engineering, manufacturing, fabrication. I basically know so much as a welder and welding inspector for only $3k investment, and the only thing I can't do is design.
I think Bowsette may be taking over the world
What's Bowsette?
did you watch HHH's last video?
The Metaphysics of Bowsette
@The Tradesman No, it's software engineering and machine learning related. Not a different field of engineering entirely. A niche, really.
I feel like it's not necessary but I still feel pulled to do it...
I dunno. I just feel stuck in limbo and I need to do something dramatic to challenge myself.
If I got a BS/MS it would only be 30k total. Which in the grand scheme, is nothing.
@Dick White Not yet.
@machtyn What do you have now?
A BS in Computer Information Systems. It was Computer Science but they turned it into an IT type degree with more operations mindset and I deeply regret it 😦
I'd take a few math classes I am missing and get a BS in CS followed by an MS in CS.
It would take 4-5 years, as I'd be working full time and cash flowing it.
If, I go that route.
I just feel like I wouldn't be taken seriously unless I get a BS/MS at senior levels.
Don't IT professionals have a service record or something that is valued more than a degree?
Well, I am switching from "IT" to "development/engineering" so no certificates matter. Only actual skills and MAYBE degrees... which is why I am on the fence.
I mean, you won't know what's valued till you sit for some interviews.
Yeah
I have and a BS in CS is pretty required but I do have 5 years exp so it is fairly easy for me to transition if I built out some open source projects
I've sat for so many interviews that require more experience than I have.
That in itself is good experience and you'll find out what they're looking for.
True. I'll just interview a bunch and base my decision of that... good idea!
I like investing in myself so 30k for excellent education is worth it to me, honestly.
Go for interviews first, aye.
My recommendation.
You do you, though.
Yeah, I will!
DocVader on Women in Medicine on YouTube. Check it out.
I really wish we could post links.
Literally just sent an email and got called in for an interview this afternoon.
Nice 👍
