if there was no light, we couldn't see any shapes... but we could still FEEL shapes. It would be fallacious reasoning to say, "There's no light and I can't see, therefore there are no shapes." Shapes don't need light to exist; they need light to be seen. Positive and negative dont need each other to exist, but having each other makes it easier for (apparently most) people to see them
