offering free stuff at stores for shoppers if they spend X amount of money would fall under BEGGING if the definition is that extreme

2019-12-01 20:29:15 UTC

*rosary in hand* you saying bad stuff about Catholics ? @Jokerfaic

2019-12-01 20:29:31 UTC

*brandishes hammer and parchment* try me cunt

2019-12-01 20:29:50 UTC

again, this isn't about "restricting freedom". u don't (or shouldn't) have the "freedom" to pick my pocket just cuz u can't get ur life together. that isn't "freedom".
"muh freedom" isn't even in conversation. we're talking about charity recipients -- you aren't "restricting freedom", you're helping a nibba out. trying to introduce "muh freedom" into the discussion is looking a gift horse in the mouth.

2019-12-01 20:30:32 UTC

just gimme a few hours to find a camel and sewing needle

2019-12-01 20:31:27 UTC

@wotmaniac so instead of giving them the money for free, why dont we force them to work then hmmmm? give them govt jobs, make them clean up the roads/highways

2019-12-01 20:31:29 UTC

@SuperHeroDeluxe yes, i'm using a fairly reductionist definition of "begging" -- but it is with purpose. it's about contrasting it with "earning"

2019-12-01 20:31:47 UTC

our local catholic churches are redistributing food that would be thrown away otherwise, it's getting dropped off by businesses that don't want to completely waste it,. i feel that people coming in to take it away aren't beggers as much as they're doing a service for our ecosystem

2019-12-01 20:32:13 UTC

yeah US catholic orgs tend to know better

2019-12-01 20:32:16 UTC
2019-12-01 20:32:26 UTC

watch out for evangelicals though

2019-12-01 20:32:38 UTC

"*holds rosary tighter*"

2019-12-01 20:32:40 UTC

and a few baptists

2019-12-01 20:33:26 UTC

@wotmaniac so instead of giving them the money for free, why dont we force them to work then hmmmm? give them govt jobs, make them clean up the roads/highways

2019-12-01 20:34:05 UTC

before there were laws protecting businesses that donate food, i had to intentionally destroy any food that was to be thrown away at businesses i worked at

2019-12-01 20:37:33 UTC

@Brue forced labor? "public works projects"?

2019-12-01 20:38:09 UTC

wait -- do u want to *give* them work, or *force them to work*?

2019-12-01 20:38:43 UTC

@wotmaniac did you want to force them to choose from the list of govt approved goods once they started to beg?

2019-12-01 20:39:42 UTC

again, i completely reject your framing; and i've detailed the explanation twice.
i'm not getting drug down an infinite loop of concern trolling

2019-12-01 20:39:59 UTC

i've said my peace.

2019-12-01 20:40:08 UTC

i'm moving on now.

2019-12-01 20:41:32 UTC

@wotmaniac that is not trolling, the start of forcing people to choose what foods they eat leaves open the ability to force them to work, to do other things, a slippery slop we do not want do go down on.

for everyone else reading this, understand ideally we would like to have no welfare or any redistribution, but given that it is going on, it is not okay to force individuals to do what the govt approves them to do, they should still have the freedom to choose

2019-12-01 20:41:38 UTC

im okay to move on as well

2019-12-01 20:42:39 UTC

@Brue *last word*

2019-12-01 20:42:51 UTC

😉

2019-12-01 20:43:10 UTC

i feel all welfare can be done the way it used to be done, by religious institutions. get the government out of it

2019-12-01 20:43:36 UTC

@SuperHeroDeluxe how would you go about getting this achomplished

2019-12-01 20:43:54 UTC

cutting the programs and people will rise up to deal with it

2019-12-01 20:44:43 UTC

look at what happened when the Meals On Wheels program had some cuts, it actually became better off after people realized meals on wheels could use some help

2019-12-01 20:44:44 UTC

@SuperHeroDeluxe who will give you the votes to cut welfare? i dont see the boomers and elderly giving up on theirs, i also do not see disabled people giving up theirs or voting for you. even if you did every single one of those people would go out and vote the next election to reverse it

2019-12-01 20:46:00 UTC

in michigan, in january, people have to work to keep benefits unless they're actually disabled to the point that they can't

2019-12-01 20:46:28 UTC

I think you could probably put a chart of social program spending up against a chart of suicide rates and let the conversation work itself out 🤷‍♂️

2019-12-01 20:46:34 UTC

that's a start in the right direction, people who just won't work won't be qualified for food and medicaid handouts

2019-12-01 20:48:13 UTC

@SuperHeroDeluxe there are many individuals which go around and end up just applying to different places in order to keep their welfare, it is easier and less time consuming, is michigan having a policy to stop those?

2019-12-01 20:48:15 UTC

we have a lot of leftards here in michigan, but we still passed that action

2019-12-01 20:48:27 UTC

@SuperHeroDeluxe if i assume correct, they will continue to be "searching for work"

2019-12-01 20:48:53 UTC

yeah, i hate that part

2019-12-01 20:49:04 UTC

so nothing will change

2019-12-01 20:49:07 UTC

if they can prove they're looking, they can stay on it

2019-12-01 20:49:22 UTC

some of them aren't that motivated

2019-12-01 20:49:28 UTC

it'll chip down the welfare a bit
