to be fair, the last place that got nuked gave us anime, so I'm not against the idea.

2019-12-18 15:30:13 UTC

still, only two options are acceptable at this point

2019-12-18 15:30:14 UTC

"And a significant amount of the terrorism that has occurred has been inspired by the US occupying countries"
I'm quite sure that's just an excuse, these people would have done the terrorism one way or the other.

2019-12-18 15:30:40 UTC

either pull the fuck out, completely, and cut them the fuck off from all trade and weapons sales

2019-12-18 15:31:05 UTC

or take every last red-blodded american military asset and point them at the actual head of the fucking jihadi snake

2019-12-18 15:31:26 UTC

"everything or nothing"
I agree, it is a waste to only go half way on the world stage.

2019-12-18 15:31:58 UTC

tell the EU to deal with it, they have ambitions of world domination.

2019-12-18 15:32:02 UTC

so far, half measures is all we're getting out of trump

2019-12-18 15:32:49 UTC

on foreign policy anyway

2019-12-18 15:32:58 UTC

half measures is the sad reality of democracy, especially with the diametrically opposed parties we have.

2019-12-18 15:33:17 UTC

two-party system is fake and gay

2019-12-18 15:33:46 UTC

not really much to be done about it in my lifetime.

2019-12-18 15:33:57 UTC

it sucks but I don't expect it to cange.

2019-12-18 15:36:19 UTC

The two party system can't really be changed unless you are willing to change the electoral system significantly

2019-12-18 15:36:57 UTC

and I wouldn't trust the people in power to fix something like this.

2019-12-18 15:37:25 UTC

The reason we have the two party system is because it would be a complete waste of time to vote for any other party in an actual election so you would likely need some kind of Proportional representation in order to change that

2019-12-18 15:38:17 UTC

that or have a proper system to remove and redistribute the delegates from the weaker candidates.

2019-12-18 15:38:32 UTC

but again, I don't trust them to fix it.

2019-12-18 15:39:11 UTC

I'm quite sure the original system actually had the states electing delegates and then those delegates electing the president.

2019-12-18 15:39:53 UTC

and not just because fast communication wasn't an option.

2019-12-18 15:40:36 UTC

its more centered on the voting process itself. 'first past the post' by its nature whittles down all but two competing parties

2019-12-18 15:40:50 UTC

seems to be the case.

2019-12-18 15:41:09 UTC

They could change it to be an STV voting system but it would make counting the votes very difficult to do

2019-12-18 15:41:30 UTC

its rather insidious how it does so, too, because it relies on the mentality of 'voting against' rather than voting for

2019-12-18 15:41:36 UTC

yah it could.

2019-12-18 15:42:32 UTC

ranked choice voting would likely be a beneficial fix

2019-12-18 15:42:39 UTC

I think what you would want to do is have your first count, then you mark all the ballots with a tag or something.

2019-12-18 15:42:48 UTC

Is there a difference between "single transferable vote" and "ranked choice"?

2019-12-18 15:43:32 UTC

especially since.. where was it Ohio? there was a ballot measure to attempt an election with ranked choice votes. the measure passed, and an "emergancy legislative conference" was assembled to nullify it

2019-12-18 15:44:03 UTC

so the big fish KNOW it threatens their power monopoly

2019-12-18 15:44:30 UTC

I don't know what flavor it is but Maine has some sort of not "first past the post" voteing.

2019-12-18 15:44:38 UTC

or duopoly rather

2019-12-18 15:45:39 UTC

eh, they are bolth happy with eachother, I think it is only the last little bit where the dems have lost the plot and started trying to destroy the repubs.

2019-12-18 15:46:15 UTC

and the repubs were always happy to just be the opposition party it seems, as they (until trump) were never willing to fight for real.

2019-12-18 16:02:59 UTC

Republicans pretty much just say whatever they have to say to keep their jobs and then either do nothing or the opposite

2019-12-18 16:03:41 UTC

For now they pretend to be on Trump team because they don't really have a choice if they wanna get reelected I feel

2019-12-18 16:04:07 UTC

yah I wouldn't put it past them to flip right back to the same old crap once trump is out.

2019-12-18 16:58:04 UTC

well yeah, and for the record, you think democrats are being obstructionist? fucks sake, just wait til Republicans are the opposition party again

2019-12-18 16:58:12 UTC

you'd think Obama got off light

2019-12-18 16:59:26 UTC

and see I've been sick of the 'god emperor' bullshit from day one.
