It's a solid point though. The majority of Democratic candidates are sitting US senators, who would be consumed by the trial during the time in which they would be campaigning in key battleground states.

2019-12-19 04:21:04 UTC

Impeached is like indicted

2019-12-19 04:21:11 UTC

my understanding is this is like a prosecutor deciding the case is worth prosecuting, and now it's going to the court.

2019-12-19 04:21:29 UTC

It's an agreement in the house to state the charges to the senate

2019-12-19 04:21:50 UTC

Yes exactly

2019-12-19 04:22:31 UTC

I'm not sure if there's another legal term for the actual removal from office

2019-12-19 04:22:51 UTC

But basically impeachment doesn't make that a sure thing at all

2019-12-19 04:23:04 UTC

it's just step one

2019-12-19 04:23:18 UTC

Exactly. Now it goes to the Senate that directs proceedings, similar to a court case.

2019-12-19 04:23:49 UTC

And unless a 2/3 majority in the Senate agree that he's guilty of charges, the President is simply Aquitted (nothing happens)

2019-12-19 04:23:58 UTC

Gotcha. So is this really just the Democrats throwing their weight around because *OrangeManBad* and they have the House of Representatives? Some hardball political theatre, if you will.

2019-12-19 04:24:09 UTC

Now you're getting it

2019-12-19 04:24:11 UTC

You got it fren

2019-12-19 04:24:14 UTC

worse then nothing happens, if he is Aquitted he is innocent of the charges. (by the standard of law)

2019-12-19 04:24:56 UTC

One could argue this was done by Dems to generate negative press to disparage his character for the upcoming election

2019-12-19 04:25:09 UTC

(had to throw that last bit in there because there are people who get off on technicalities, though I don't believe that's the case here)

2019-12-19 04:25:27 UTC

@Mersenne I would argue that is the case, there is so little evidence to the contrary.

2019-12-19 04:25:39 UTC

good chance their plan backfires hard

2019-12-19 04:25:55 UTC

Already has. Polls show Trump overtook Biden in key states *during* the impeachment hearings.

2019-12-19 04:25:57 UTC

it already has and it will keep backfireing the longer they talk about it.

2019-12-19 04:26:10 UTC

Damn, he was actually impeached. For some reason I thought there was a republican majority and he wouldn't be

2019-12-19 04:26:16 UTC

It sounds like that's the case to me. The left-wing just got Yeeted out of existence in the UK with our election, and I think the Dems are terrified the same is going to happen in the US in 2020

2019-12-19 04:26:25 UTC

Democratic majority in the House, Republican in the Senate

2019-12-19 04:26:27 UTC

@Mersenne hahaha that's great to hear

2019-12-19 04:26:44 UTC

Biden's gonna get stomped

2019-12-19 04:26:53 UTC

that might be their play now, they can't back down form impeachment because of how crazy their bases, so they have to throw it to the Senate, and I would bet they will just claim that he is being acquitted based on partisanship.

2019-12-19 04:27:07 UTC

The main reason they did it was most likely so they'd have a better shot winning in 2020

2019-12-19 04:27:14 UTC

Pretty much. The claims themselves hold little merit from a legal perspective regardless.

2019-12-19 04:27:19 UTC

even though he was impeached solely on partisanship lol

2019-12-19 04:27:44 UTC

This will likely have the opposite effect. Fatiguing moderate voters and catalyzing the Republican base.

2019-12-19 04:27:45 UTC

and that will be the arguement back, but the (most of) news is part of the dem party so they won't report that part.

2019-12-19 04:27:57 UTC

I reckon this brings the impeachment procedure into question then if Presidents can be impeached on pure partisanship.

2019-12-19 04:27:58 UTC

Several democrats were quoted saying they had to impeach him or he might win the election

2019-12-19 04:28:07 UTC

pro strat: people are mad at us for lying, let's lie more

2019-12-19 04:28:19 UTC

Here is the Schoolhouse Rock explanation of how it will work out https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/295826901132509186/657076375840227338/e3a2oh8klb541.gif

2019-12-19 04:28:21 UTC

@ZERO this is why it goes to the Senate

2019-12-19 04:28:41 UTC

What's to stop the Republicans impeaching the next Dem president because they don't like them? And then it just repeating every 4 years?

2019-12-19 04:29:05 UTC

It doesn't go to the senate though. He's been impeached. He now can't run for office in 2020

2019-12-19 04:29:06 UTC

He is Impeached. Long live the God Emperor. Senate trail house party starting soon.

2019-12-19 04:29:26 UTC

Curious to see if they call the whistleblower or Biden's to the stand <:trumpepe:588019356215279642>
