No I'm sorry man. I know the millitary is a touchy conservative talking point. But we waste ungodly amounts of money on tge millitary that desperately needs to be spent elsewhere.

You don't like increased taxes and think the government is wasting all of our money? Then we have to look at the millitary even more so than healthcare.

Our millitary spending accounts for around 55% of our budget. The U.S. accounts for 37 percent of the total millitary on the planet. U.S. military expenditures are roughly the size of the next seven largest military budgets around the world, combined.

Trust me, just like everything else the government does, its way over bloated.

2019-12-19 05:25:11 UTC

Unless it's a link

2019-12-19 05:25:20 UTC

Going to write it out i guess

2019-12-19 05:25:47 UTC

Look, you can make a balanced argument for promoting responsible military spending. Hell, you can advocate for auditing and improving the provision of taxpayer money to programs. But to claim it's wasted is what tends to piss people off on the topic.

2019-12-19 05:26:26 UTC

Its the same thing

2019-12-19 05:26:26 UTC

@Mersenne Any recommindations for extracting text from jpeg?

2019-12-19 05:26:32 UTC

Our military budget is ten times Russia's and we wonder if we should spend more

Just DM and I'll knock it out.

2019-12-19 05:26:43 UTC

Thanks

2019-12-19 05:26:50 UTC

R&d is a majority of most military budgets, and the tech developments from the military tend to pay back into the economy

2019-12-19 05:27:19 UTC

I have little knowledge in this regard but it seems pretty excessive to be spending more than the next ten countries combined

2019-12-19 05:27:34 UTC

No, 55% of the budget is not going into the military

2019-12-19 05:27:54 UTC

It's at most 20% for the entire department of security

2019-12-19 05:28:13 UTC

Still large but not *over half*

2019-12-19 05:28:16 UTC

I think most of the budget is entitlements at this point

2019-12-19 05:28:22 UTC

20% sounds accurate

2019-12-19 05:28:32 UTC

15-20%

2019-12-19 05:28:41 UTC

Allot of people conflate the entire executive branch and the military, could that be the confusion in the numbers?

2019-12-19 05:28:49 UTC

oh and interest on the debt is a big chunk

2019-12-19 05:29:14 UTC

It's like 10% interest payments

2019-12-19 05:29:42 UTC

I'll double check

2019-12-19 05:29:56 UTC

so 10% of our tax money is just gone immediately

2019-12-19 05:30:07 UTC

Military is underfunded tbh.

2019-12-19 05:30:18 UTC

As long as we do the shit we do.

2019-12-19 05:30:21 UTC

I think the military should just consolidate

2019-12-19 05:30:33 UTC

Underfunded because too thinly spread

2019-12-19 05:30:53 UTC

We got bases all over the world while our hardware at home is falling apart

2019-12-19 05:30:53 UTC

consolidate in what way?

2019-12-19 05:30:57 UTC

I see

2019-12-19 05:31:15 UTC

Close some bases overseas, stop interventions, etc

2019-12-19 05:31:29 UTC

He fired McArthur
He was just trying to save his skin for letting the commies get North Korea because of him
So he blamed the military for starting the war.
So it couldn't be his fault.
He wasn't controlling anything.
That was his argument.
That boogeyman got even more ground in the Vietnam War with hippies.
"Vietnam was started for petty capitalistic gains" they said
They gathered support and we lost Vietnam War just one year before we could have clearly won
That is a fact btw
We would have won.
The Tet Offensive was the last straw to the hippies. (mind you the offensive failed in most regards but it was well coordinated)
The true objective of the Tet Offensive was to make it look like the US couldn't ever win because of 6 different attacks going on at one time.
The cold war denuclearization movement (by communists and hippies" also used the military industrial complex argument to make the US lose the cold war.
Tried at least
Now the term means "that all military action is bad because of those damn arms companies and big oil."
So no I don't have a problem with it.
