I'd say the grim pictures will have more of an affect than the plain packs, personally. I don't particularly like looking at a dead bloke on my packs.
The grim pictures were introduced onto branded packs prior to the introduction of plain packs too
But there's no evidence that plain packaging caused all, or if any, of that drop
