Smiling in a chimps can mean they're trying to intimidate you or that they're fucking terrified. It's basically a fight or flight expression for them. They're either going to run the fuck away or fuck shit up.

Also I think this proves that mass membership isn't necessarily good for a party. After all Labour keeps being help hostage by this rabid core that represents only 2% of the total voter base. And the more their party leans into that 2% the more they will shed the 30% other voters who aren't in that 2%.
