The "lot" of people has been deteriorating in the UK for a generation, a trend that is not changing
And it's not going to
That's cherrypicked global trends, not UK living standards
Every generation there are people that says it's gonna get worse... And it just gets better :p
empirically not true, wacka
post-war generation were the last ones to enjoy a better life than their parents
Actually it's interesting... Most traders for example lose money... Because they keep shorting the market
it plateu'd, then from gen-x on it's a worse life than their parents
Waiting for that big crash
They're called doomers
And every now and then one becomes a millionaire
And almost straight away loses it
i don't know about that, wacka, all i can say is that the richest few are pulling away and everyone else is getting poorer
We're not getting poorer though
we are
they system appears to "inflate" the wealth of the wealthiest
Only relative to the rich
no
relative to the costs of things
@Eccles Lets take your system and apply it to the population as it is and with the budget you're replacing.
You would only be able to give £57 a week to every adult in the UK. So you'd be taking money from pensioners and from the poorest, including the disabled, and from families to give it to people who don't need it and to rich bois with big earning jobs.
If we include taking away personal allowance then you can give every person £82 a week. And again cutting the poorest pensioners pensions in half, decimating support for the poorest families and the disabled all while technically not removing the whole entitlement system that would exist around disability benefits. Not forgetting of course losing the personal tax allowance will mean that the people who most benefit from this are the richest while the poorest barely get any extra, in fact the poorest will end up worse off for it! because it'll cost them £48 a week to do this meaning that you end up with £34 a week being their real UBI less than not cutting the personal allowance.
It's outcomes like this being why I massively oppose UBI because its taking huge amounts of money from a few million that need it and giving it to tens of millions who don't in the name of fairness.
We're better off than the 80s ... We're DEFINITELY better off than the 70s
we're not
.
Also pretty rich to talk about inflating the rich of the richest when your system would do just that.
I mean... My parents would go weeks without power...
my grandparents had a fucking horse, that's tech-level dependent
No it's not tech
It was money... The gov switched off the power
life expectancy is going down, job security is almost non-existent, you now require 2 working members in a household to make ends meet, house ownership is going down, house size and quality is going down
suicides up, happiness down
fertility rates down
marriage rates down
health of people and the environment down
muhhhgdp is up, though
Your forgetting that a lot of that went up significantly to this point
which is what you're conflating
I honestly think the numbers are being fudged.
Life expectancy and job security are both up
life expectancy is going down, job security is through the fucking floor compared to 50 years ago
You think job security was good in the 70s???
Staying in one job for life shouldn't be normal
