We shouldn't stop someone from immigrating into the nation based on factors beyond their control
does that part actually matter to you though
like if you accepted it was an effective way of determining that
would you change your stance
or is this not relevant to the point
No i wouldn't
I simply don't believe it is fair for us to stop someone from immigrating based on their ancestry which they had no control over
do you think it would be okay to, in the immigration process, discriminate against people who have antisocial personality disorder?
Yes
To an extent though
Should we discriminate by intelligence?
is antisocial personality disorder not an immutable trait
Is gender not an immutable trait
It's an immutable trait that has more of an effect
oh okay
so how effective a trait is in determining how well someone integrates into our society does matter
even if it is immutable
We shouldn't discriminate based on immutable traits unless that immutable trait has a significant effect on the person
I don't believe race does
this seems different from what you've said earlier
It pretty much is
Lol
Okay
Race doesn't have any serious effect on anyone's life
You're arguing with a believer
I simply don't believe that we should discriminate based on a characteristic that has next to no effect on someone and that they had no control over
If a private citizen wanted to discriminate based on those grounds then it would be wrong but it should be allowed
But the State doing that would be a major problem and shouldn't be allowed
The State has an obligation to help the citizens of the nation and discriminating against certain citizens would break this obligation
There should definitely be discrimination on immigration based on ethnicity.
Whether it is not somebody's fault they were born a certain way or not does not matter. What matters is the nations safety and wellbeing. The more difference there is between people and other ethnicities, the less integrated and united people are. Everybody has imbued within them a certain familiarity with people and the less familiar they are with someone, the less they have in common
Simple as
Simple as
I simply disagree
Is that market worship or do you actually care about national cohesion?
I care about the state not discriminating against it's citizens
@Dᴏᴏғᴜs Dᴏʀᴋᴍᴀɴᴇ I kinda hope you're mixing up ethnicity with nationality. We already restrict migration based on origin because as you say, security concerns.
What about discriminating against non citizens
Non citizens are non citizens
That would still be wrong if it was based on race, If the native citizens really wanted to do that then it should be done but i would still disagree with it
Ethnicity is a group of things. Stuff like race is involved, but so is genetics and ancestry.
Basically what ethnicity comes down to is: The more similar someone is to you, the better. Nationality would fit in there as well, but it there is a higher chance that someone from Portugal will integrate better in England than someone from Somalia
