I'm studying them atm in uni, they definitely havent given up on the word

The article I read said the word 'Anglo-Saxon' was a white supremacist phrase that wasn't inclusive enough or something like that
But didn't mention anything about the Anglo Saxons themselves

Anglo-Saxons themselves probably werent much more or less racist than everyone else in the medieval era
i think the tl;dr is some actual white supremacists co-opt it, esp in the ameri-sphere, but that should not mean you have to eliminate it in the right context
