Whether the toaster is alive or not really depends on how complex it is.
Its doing something by itself that it was preset to do
it's irrelevant that's why there's no good definition of it in biology @ManAnimal
@OneTrueGod Just like genes then
complexity has nothing to do with being alive
Kinda does tho
a single celled organism is alive
not very complex
simples organisms have like dozens genes
a sponge is alive
Pretty damn complex
chemically *extremely* complex
only to one without a context to quantify complexty
Everything non-living is less complex than anything alive.
O^n
and the thing 'life' uses all forces of nature it can
that is simply untrue
Genes are very deterministic or "preset" if you will.
The only difference is that genes came about due to a dumb process of evolution, whereas machines were constructed.
Example pls
@ππΎπ©π³ A home computer is more complex than an amoeba.
If it's alive, it can die
@Seven Proxies Thatβs a good point actually
all chemistry is contingent on an incredibly complex interaction of subatomic particles
you know when you make a factory that takes in resources, uses some materials on site to process them and makes factories that make factories etc that would fulfill the definition of life
Viruses are technically neither alive or not
lmao
But if we introduce size as a factor
neither are gays
schroedingers virus
They're strange parts of biology
They are a form of life
jfc
cese
No living thing the size of a home computer is less complex than a home computer
sis
@ππΎπ©π³ Size has never been a factor for the definition of life though
whether it is alive or not is not relevant
how do you measure complexity?
