there are also some tuned jap awd machines that definitely put down some really absurd times

2018-07-10 19:22:54 UTC

And i am certain those were cheap to build.

2018-07-10 19:23:15 UTC

And can be driven comfortably everyday to work.

2018-07-10 19:23:29 UTC

Cheaper than the average executive sedan

2018-07-10 19:23:38 UTC

See the second point

2018-07-10 19:23:43 UTC

the problem with them tends to be clutch weight and turbo lag

2018-07-10 19:24:07 UTC

though there was a 1500hp supra that had a stupid motorcycle beating 0-60 and was road legal a few years ago

2018-07-10 19:24:10 UTC

which ran an auto

2018-07-10 19:24:21 UTC

We are kind of at the point where it takes serious compromises to get significant performance gains

2018-07-10 19:24:32 UTC

Either in comfort, or in cost

2018-07-10 19:24:36 UTC

well turbo lag isn't much of a compromise

2018-07-10 19:24:52 UTC

Hell, man, a stock evo is barely a daily

2018-07-10 19:25:00 UTC

I doubt the kustom ones were better

2018-07-10 19:25:26 UTC

I've never driven an evo, I heard some nasty things about the FQ400 though

2018-07-10 19:25:31 UTC

but that's not really stock

2018-07-10 19:25:42 UTC

I have driven a few imprezas around 300-450hp

2018-07-10 19:26:05 UTC

If I was being picky, the clutch was a little heavy on the higher hp ones

2018-07-10 19:26:19 UTC

450 isnt crazy tho

2018-07-10 19:26:24 UTC

but it's not something that would really bother me

2018-07-10 19:26:52 UTC

450hp is a decent amount in a '99 impreza

2018-07-10 19:27:13 UTC

Im talking shit that would be the equivalent of an OG Mustang Eleanor.

2018-07-10 19:27:14 UTC

they don't weigh much at all, and they do grip like the rubber is wrapped in glue

2018-07-10 19:27:20 UTC

700 and 800hp monsters

2018-07-10 19:27:39 UTC

I've driven a 600hp supra, that would have worked fine as a daily

2018-07-10 19:28:26 UTC

the brakes on that were utter garbage though, but I think something was genuinely wrong with them

2018-07-10 19:28:28 UTC

Coming from someone able to tolerate quite a lot more discomfort in a daily driver than most people, that means little

2018-07-10 19:28:42 UTC

they were worse than my s14s

2018-07-10 19:29:26 UTC

I am not using myself as a measure for this either, tho i only tolerate comfort compromises within reason.

2018-07-10 19:30:15 UTC

But really. Try getting a Charger SRT's level of comfort, piling in 800hp, and making it worthwhile over the 500hp version

2018-07-10 19:30:26 UTC

Not exactly easy

2018-07-10 19:30:55 UTC

I've only driven a base v6 charger

2018-07-10 19:31:13 UTC

I have no reference point beyond that

2018-07-10 19:31:17 UTC

and that was... 5 years ago

2018-07-10 19:31:28 UTC

damn

2018-07-10 19:31:33 UTC

It's been a long time

2018-07-10 19:31:56 UTC

I mean take any car with that tho.

2018-07-10 19:32:07 UTC

the thing is, a lot of the modern performance cars are going to be less comfortable than tuned cars

2018-07-10 19:32:16 UTC

because supercars make compromises as well

2018-07-10 19:32:28 UTC

Try preserving the responsiveness, comfort, etc, while also subtracting 3 secinds from the 0 to 60 time

2018-07-10 19:32:55 UTC

Like even if you compromise some, which factory sports cars do, it just aint happening

2018-07-10 19:33:02 UTC

my ludicrously wealthy friend has a huracan, it's a great car to look at but the driving position is not perfect, the seats imo are uncomfortable and the interior feels cheap - not because it is but because it's been made for lightness
