SG-1 was low budget, man. Except for the first episode, that had even full frontal nudity.
They can't just move the actors and camera around to deal with the hot casings hitting the actors.

I really loved stargate in the early days
The lore early on was nice. I liked the idea of stargates spared over the galaxy by some unknown ancient civilization, that even the oldest alien species don't know anything about.
Too bad some of the best story lines didn't lead to anything interesting.
Oh, like that one where the "advanced humans" just opened their doors to the main villains, "they come in peace, we're technologically superior to them, we have nothing to fear", and get fucked.
