Interesting piece on swatting if you scroll down on the page

2018-01-28 15:32:23 UTC

I know some people here have some pretty strong opinions on GDQ, but I haven't paid too much attention to it

2018-01-28 15:32:37 UTC

thoughts, anyone? Is video accurate? Or nah? Or kinda-sorta?

2018-01-28 16:40:50 UTC

Yes, it's accurate.

2018-01-28 16:40:55 UTC

GDQs peaked at 2014.

2018-01-28 16:42:26 UTC

This year felt like trannies and wannabe trannies on display everywhere. That purplehaired monstrosity in the beginning is a lolcow.

2018-01-28 16:42:36 UTC

interesting
seen other people say that it's "100% opinion and no facts at all"
And even these people say that GDQ has gone to shit

2018-01-28 16:43:18 UTC

Trihex is the based nig.

2018-01-28 16:49:21 UTC

I joined his chat for the thing

2018-01-28 16:49:50 UTC

and since he has such a big following, they wouldn't bring down his chat

2018-01-28 16:50:14 UTC

Finished watching the video, it's quite barebones. There's way more that it left out.

2018-01-28 16:50:48 UTC

yeah. It's sad that there's so much drama around that stuff, but I guess that's what you get when you let SJW's run it.

2018-01-28 16:53:01 UTC

GDQ turned into a for-profit organization, simple as that. They started as a charity event, where they would take their cut to cover expenses, then send the rest to charity. Now they are effectively a private organization that gets hired by charity to run an event. They organize and run the event, and bill the charity. 100% of the money goes to the charity, but part of it is then sent back to GDQ.

2018-01-28 16:53:55 UTC

There's the question of how much control the charities have over how the event should be run. If PCF and MSF want it to be family-friendly, no cursing, no politics, no memes, no fun, that's how GDQ has to run it.

2018-01-28 16:55:08 UTC

A few of the scandals not touched by it: some volunteers get paid, some volunteers don't.

2018-01-28 16:55:45 UTC

And if you think about it, the runners are the stars. Yet, they have to pay for everything, even to participate the event.

2018-01-28 16:59:04 UTC

apparently they're willing to pay for it, though, otherwise I imagine it would have died a while ago

2018-01-28 16:59:36 UTC

but I think if anyone should be paid, it should be the runners before any kind of volunteer

2018-01-28 17:00:52 UTC

There's also the various power tripping fiascos. Like when Big Jon, known for speedrunning NES Open Golf, suggested running golf, his submission got shot down because Mike Uyama didn't like golf. The matter got quite public because of how ridiculous it sounded. Then at one GDQs, when Big Jon was running Super Mario Bros Lost Levels, one of the donations mentioned they would love to see Big Jon run golf. Big Jon just pulled the golf cartridge from his backpack, and showed it for like a second on stream, saying something like "it's right here." GDQ took offense to that, and the next GDQ they called him out, as he arrived, to publicly chastise him for his disrespect for the event.

2018-01-28 17:01:55 UTC

They never contacted him before that. They waited until the next opportunity to make an example out of him, in front of everyone.

2018-01-28 17:02:38 UTC

Sounds classy af

2018-01-28 17:03:28 UTC

Even Dana White isn't that disdainful towards his own organisation's employees/contractors

2018-01-28 17:03:55 UTC

sounds exactly like what I expect from the people running the show

2018-01-28 17:04:01 UTC

cowardly wretches

2018-01-28 17:04:38 UTC

There was that catastrophic Super Mario Maker relay race... in 2016 I think? A bunch of nobodies, just struggling to play some moderately difficult levels. All the big names decided to abstain, in protest.

2018-01-28 17:05:15 UTC

CarlSagan42 was in the couch, not playing; I think Panga was on the couch too. Trihex wasn't even at the event, Big Jon didn't participate...

2018-01-28 17:12:18 UTC

I remember Carl Sagan giving the postmortem, he regretted the level he designed, it was too hard for the skill level of these players.

2018-01-28 17:14:20 UTC

Even during the run:
"Carl, you made this level, what do you think of these guys playing it so far?"
"I gave them arrows to follow, I don't know what their problem is."

2018-01-29 01:11:28 UTC

I was thinking of making a "Most Anticipated Games of 2018" video but this is the first year in a long time when there really aren't enough upcoming titles to be worth making a video about

There's Shakedown Hawaii, Manifold Garden, Mystic Searches and uh ... God only knows when Talos Principle 2 will come out. Rumor is that they might make an Arkham Origins sequel but no solid evidence and even some denials, so ... that's three games with trailers and two vaporware possibilities for a grand total of five games to talk about. Just five!

What happened, games industry? Couldn't figure out a way to cram microtransactions into the good games so you just decided to make all the games bad?

2018-01-29 07:35:21 UTC

New Metro is coming
For a game series that has been incredibly linear (versus the spate of open-world style games over the last five years) it sure has managed to show how effective that approach can be

2018-01-29 07:37:30 UTC

@Reaps seen the trailer, can't wait for the thing to come out

2018-01-29 07:41:40 UTC
