Game had lots of potential that's just been squandered over the years in favour of making a 'free to play' game that rakes in money by adding new trinkets instead of expanding upon the gameplay and making a true "next-gen MMO combat game"
Just because I get to sit in the lobby with 42,000 players doesn't mean shit if I'm only playing with a *random* selection of 31 other players on a *random* map on a *random* Unreal Tournament style game mode with a *random* assortment of vehicles that are lumped together by an arbitrary number system
It's little more than a time waster now, and I haven't dropped a dime on it in nearly a year because I know that it's *not going anywhere*, certainly not in any direction that I'd be even remotely excited to see. Fucking pathetic that the 'community' can put together larger, more detailed, more immersive maps than the paid employees of the company can, and that's just the tip of the fucking iceberg
Bugs that existed when I stopped playing back in January are not only still there, but are now compounded by shiny *new* bugs (or, even worse, sometimes *deliberately-added 'features'*) that just continue to piss the potential of the game away
Last time I spent any money on the game was when I won big on a fight back around December of last year and decided to spend a smidge of that on getting access to the 'beta test' (pffft) of the naval battles, which has been little more than a gargantuan fail so far
targeting is absolute shit
And it's little more than 'domination mode', puddle pirates edition - with *stupid fucking arbitrary cap points* slapped onto the map all over again
They've introduced CLs but keep using the same maps that were designed for boats (which play more like a NZ Jetboat experience ride), all they've done is extended the X and Y axis of the map into open water but keeping the very obviously squared-off island chains tucked into a corner - which is where all three fucking cap points remain, leaving CLs with little more to do than either trade shots with each other while the ticket bleed drags on, or force themselves into shallow water where long-range, slower-reloading guns are pointless to have and they can get torp'd all day by the fizzboats
Game modes are so neglected that, as but one example, when the Japan tanks were first released, SB players weren't allowed to use them (despite the advertising for the 'pre-purchase packages' claiming that you would have access to the beta test if you got one). I literally had to basically threaten one of the game managers that I'd take the company to the fucking ombudsman for false advertising if they didn't either provide me with a refund or provide access to Jap tanks in SB
In summary, I'll play this game every now and then just to enjoy those rare moments where the game shines and shows what it could be with just that little bit more of a shove in the right direction.
Otherwise, fuck this game. Absolute waste of potential. Said it before, but it's extremely poor game design when your reaction to having a good, satisfying, *entertaining* round is to think "right, time to quit the game now"
