@Dwarforn Small native and cultural languages don't get erased due to migration, but rather because the younger generations don't learn it, and the populations die off. Most commonly these languages aren't passed on because they are no longer taught in school due to standardisation of education

The loss of Gaelic in Scotland and Ireland wasn't only the result of Cromwell, but a more longer and institutional one. The Country was centralised more during Victorian era, and the education was taught in English due to standardisation. Furthermore, local languages and dialects were suppressed and not allowed in official documents

Scotland was still part of the Personal Union with England at the time, where they had their own government. Full integration didn't occur until the act of Union in 1707, where it became part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain

Is it not a standard tactic to force a langiuage on people you conquer anyway, many regions of the world no longer speak their native languages due to this, spanish, portugese, english, french, russian languages are the main language of many countries where they would not be 'native'.
And i guess that removing a language by forcing trade and official communication in a standard language (eq the conquerors) is a great way to destroy local cultures and make people feel less local and make it easier to assimilate the people.
Yes, because by forcing your language, culture, religion and law you slowly destroy the previous ones, and hence destroy their national identity in order to adopt yours. By doing so the conquered generation won't integrate properly, but the coming ones who will be born under the new leadership will be educated and brought up with it, therefore not opposing the government
