There is quite compelling evidence that Saudi secret agents could have murdered Khashoggi in the Saudi embassy in Istanbul, which Saudi Arabia rejects
The US could have intervened and protected Khashoggi, since he was US resident for several years
However, Trump does not want to appear hostile or incriminate his Saudi allies
not that I like Saudi Arabia, but this is a situation where you need to step carefully
Saudi Arabia has had enough time to fix their shit, and Trump siding with them and making blind eyes to their crimes hasn't helped
Their involvement in the Yemeni civil war, blatant human rights abuses, and lack of rights for women in their country shows that they're not improving
