```In 1916, with the encouragement and support of Britain (which was fighting the Ottomans in World War I), the Sharif of Mecca, Hussein bin Ali, led a pan-Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire to create a united Arab state.[88] Although the Arab Revolt of 1916 to 1918 failed in its objective, the Allied victory in World War I resulted in the end of Ottoman suzerainty and control in Arabia.[89]```
what is now Saudi Arabia was left for the Arabian tribes to fight over, where eventually the house of Saad took over and conquered the tribes forming Saudi Arabia
The British and the French only took over through mandates what is now, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon and Israel
Saudi chose the correct side in the Yemeni War. The Houthi are terrible why would you not oppose them? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houthi_movement
I'm not supporting their enemies, since they're sided with Iran. But Saudi Arabia's indiscriminate bombing of civilians and other assorted war crimes isn't something to be looked over
Yemen has become a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia to see who is the dominant Muslim power from each sect
and?
The Houthi are basically the original ISIS, and war is war
Both are shitty
But atleast in Iran, there’s a good amount of resistance against the regime
War is not some clean game where you dont get dirty.
Civilians die
Children die
Bombs are not smart, they are indiscriminate.
War is when all rules go out the window
It’s why the geneva convention is the most useless thing ever
War is a struggle between two irreconcilable wills. You must break the enemy´s will as quickly as possible if you do not want more suffering.
Bombing civilians has proven to do the opposite
I think it’s also important not to repeat the constant failure of leaving your enemy as your enemy
You should always try to reconcile so future war could be avoided
Which is one of the main reasons for the EU's existence
I would like "evidence" of the intent to bomb civilians for the sake of bombing civilians
Accidental civilian death in course of a legitimate bombing is not a war crime
Also, the idea of a 'crime' is that you are being held accountable to a court of law above yourself.
Saudi Arabia has no such thing.
Ok I have to agree with Paul here tho to go to war is to declare that you intend to eliminate a threat only after world war 1 did anyone even care about civvies, up until that point most countries did “war crimes”
War crimes and 'civilians' are a modern invention and byproduct of professional armies relieving the responsibility of national defense from the citizenry
(You may reuse that quote.)
I mean in a lot of these countries there’s a larger population that doesn’t fight but I’d imagine if the us was attacked everyone would be frothing for a fight
Well technically they are accountable to the human rights tribunal
*They ARE the human rights tribunal!*
I always found ironic
That they have a seat
yea it shows that it just a joke
