Insurance is probably the greatest invention of the past 150 years

2018-11-17 19:01:00 UTC

Which means even without the 501c status they arnt able to make more than 3% profit.

2018-11-17 19:01:29 UTC

Anything with the name 'Mutual' in it is operated in that regard

2018-11-17 19:04:26 UTC

Imagine a health insurance company that was operated as a non profit by a religious organization that as part of your plan you had to volunteer at the hospital once a month or something like that

2018-11-17 19:04:34 UTC

Talk about cheap healthcare lol

2018-11-17 19:06:48 UTC

All the blue cross blue shield companies have to agree to non profit or not for profit

2018-11-17 19:07:18 UTC

To be part of the association and reap the benefits

2018-11-17 19:08:16 UTC

I actually feel the not for profit are better companies. As they dont dodge the taxes.

2018-11-17 19:08:38 UTC

Well not fully. They get some tax benefit o lf course

2018-11-17 19:09:18 UTC

But they dont larp as a charity

2018-11-17 19:10:11 UTC

Thing is, without all these regulations, some of these agencies COULD actually operate as charities as well providing healthcare to those who can't afford it

2018-11-17 19:11:16 UTC

Insurance isnt healthcare.

2018-11-17 19:11:25 UTC

But i get your point

2018-11-17 19:11:52 UTC

The one i worked for donated their overage of profit to charity healthcare orgs

2018-11-17 19:12:23 UTC

Why can't they be both? Which is my point.

Did you know that it's federal law that you can't have too many hospitals in one city based upon your population size?

2018-11-17 19:13:48 UTC

Because thats the insurance model. Insurance is a just in case to help pay, not meant for your everyday. Look aat car insurance. It doesnt provide repairs it helps in the unfortunate but also doesnt pay for routine maint.

2018-11-17 19:14:04 UTC

Yea that is a stupid law

2018-11-17 19:14:25 UTC

But one that doesnt matter as most hospitals in most cities are owned by the same group.

2018-11-17 19:14:51 UTC

Probably because of that regulation

2018-11-17 19:15:18 UTC

I assume the gov was acting like hospitals and schools are similar in that regard

2018-11-17 19:18:25 UTC

There are many factors to that. Creation of the fda, america increasing its r&d rates, various insurance regulations, ect.

2018-11-17 19:19:19 UTC

Speaking of the FDA, gotta love their nanny state mindset with the ban on flavors of ecig, menthol cigs and all flavored cigars

2018-11-17 19:20:21 UTC

Best thing trump did for the medical market aside from dismantling the mandate was allow experimental non fda approved treatments in otherwise fatal diseases.

2018-11-17 19:29:35 UTC

Now if we can expand that further itd be great.

They're doing cool shit with stem cells in Panama

2018-11-17 19:31:47 UTC

I mean FDA has a use. It keeps all the scammy shit at bay. But still it has grown to much.

2018-11-17 20:57:59 UTC

I can see it both ways. There's definitely good and bad points for both a small and a large FDA.

2018-11-17 21:02:20 UTC

Nah, it's too big.

2018-11-17 21:02:44 UTC

The FDA was like many agencies. Born from good intentions that got out of hand.

2018-11-17 21:03:08 UTC

It's like a natural law or something at this point

2018-11-17 21:03:44 UTC

Basically. Unless some massive restrictions are placed on the agency beforehand that are airtight and the sitting pres cant adjust them.

2018-11-17 21:04:28 UTC

But then you run into constitutional basis. As those agencies survive at the perview of the president as they belong to executive branch.

2018-11-17 21:04:41 UTC

Like: The FDA shall be limited to securing the purity of consumable products.

2018-11-17 21:26:15 UTC

nothing to see here

2018-11-17 21:31:24 UTC

it's funny though

2018-11-17 21:31:45 UTC

people with enough money can literally just kill people as long as they don't do it too often

2018-11-17 21:31:55 UTC

and they call it a suicide

2018-11-17 21:32:00 UTC

and everyone knows what's going on

2018-11-17 21:32:08 UTC

but it's a big joke

2018-11-17 21:45:49 UTC

Hillary has the bar of max kills at a time
