alternative is that, because birth rates are low, then welfare can't be supported
You don't need welfare with less people, because then employment is scarce and wages go up
lol yea
but the argument is that they can't pay their taxes
because taxes have to go up
It's a false equivalency
along with wages
how is it false tho
more people in retirement means more taxes needed to support them
The argument is that you need migrants to replace your population, to support the old people
yeah but lets look at the context surrounding that argument
If people earn more, then you get more taxes, yes?
the argument is longer than that
the conclusion to the argument is you need more migrants
If people earn more, that means more people in higher tax brackets
and that culture change is inevitable
Says who?
You?
unless birth rates of natives can be encouraged
well i say that, because when there's a large amount of immigration, it happens
Sounds like you've swallowed too much soyboy jizz
haha no
read my argument
I did
did you
The whole premise is wrong
okay, well your argument was that wages would go up because employment is down
but taxes will also have to rise
will wages be enough to pay for the taxes needed
for the retirement budget
because govt is at least going to have support the poor in retirement
I'd reply, but you keep on typing and I don't get a chance to respond.
they could take away retirement, but the only way the people would approve of that solution is when things get really bad
ok, im almost done
people never actually agree with the govt when they say they don't have enough money, it always comes across like an excuse or something - and higher taxes when they can't pay them wouldn't go over well, especially if they need to tax the poor higher too
things would have to get really bad before people agree to austerity
isn't that generally how it is
ok im done
You're forgetting about the low-skilled, low-income welfare recipients, which would no longer be on welfare because their wages are increased, and they are employed.
So now that section of welfare spending is now diverted to the elderly.
All of this assumes welfare is a good idea in the first place, which I don't believe is so.
You're bringing in migrants, to help support a welfare scheme that was doomed to fail from the start, and was never the purpose of your government in the first place.
