it all down to who the military sided with and if the US decides to come in from the side line

2019-01-24 10:20:04 UTC

The problem is most higher ups are corrupt as well

2019-01-24 10:20:22 UTC

We will offer humanitarian aod like food, I am sure

2019-01-24 10:20:26 UTC

Aid

2019-01-24 10:21:32 UTC

My fundamental belief is just that taxpayer dollars should always go towards national interests. Charity and humanitarian aid should come from donations. This keeps the government much more responsible with its use of funds.

2019-01-24 10:22:02 UTC

Humanitarian causes sound nice, but they're prone to lots of corruptions.

2019-01-24 10:22:05 UTC

Loads, actually.

2019-01-24 10:23:15 UTC

It is national interest to keep their countrt from collapsing

2019-01-24 10:23:19 UTC

That's true, but you could strike a nice deal with Venezuelan oil

2019-01-24 10:23:20 UTC

think in all cases norway did go over it aid programs they did end up finding insane level of corruption

2019-01-24 10:23:34 UTC

How many caravans would come?

2019-01-24 10:23:56 UTC

I thought you were saying the US should provide humanitarian aid, Ender.

2019-01-24 10:24:22 UTC

It should. Because it is in our national interest

2019-01-24 10:24:35 UTC

To prevent refugee crises

2019-01-24 10:25:20 UTC

That's the type of governance that I'm saying is prone to corruption.

2019-01-24 10:25:28 UTC

The state should not take that role.

2019-01-24 10:25:47 UTC

At least in Venezuela there has been a refugee crisis for years. But it has mostly affected neighboring countries

2019-01-24 10:27:03 UTC

It will be our problem sooner or later. The question is, deal with it sooner, or later?

2019-01-24 10:27:24 UTC

The role of the state should be to create the optimal conditions for market forces and and charity to do the work.

2019-01-24 10:28:13 UTC

Also the role of the state to do what is necessary at short notice

2019-01-24 10:28:51 UTC

You mean emergency response?

2019-01-24 10:28:59 UTC

Aid is self defense in this scenario. And yeah basically

2019-01-24 10:30:13 UTC

Yeah, sure I agree with that. Enforce laws, handle emergencies, fight crime and violence, punish contract violations etc, but the US should not do those things, Venezuelans should.

2019-01-24 10:31:00 UTC

Think of it this way. Would you rather the Army handing out MREs or the Clinton Foundation handing out 'aid' to the government?

2019-01-24 10:31:00 UTC

Of course if a Venezuelan and American company have a legal dispute then the US government has a role in that, and we should enforce the fairness of both Venezuelan companies as well as our own.

2019-01-24 10:31:53 UTC

Or rather, both countries should seek to ensure that all parties are honoring the laws of each country.

2019-01-24 10:32:19 UTC

If the Clinton foundation wants to give food to people that's fine.

2019-01-24 10:32:41 UTC

Venezuelancannot ensure anything right now. And remember Haiti?

2019-01-24 10:32:45 UTC

I'd rather that then empower the state to do fancy things with how it allocates funds.

2019-01-24 10:33:48 UTC

Yeah Haiti was a shit show and they weren't actually giving the resources to the people, so that's different from what your hypothetical was.

2019-01-24 10:34:00 UTC

But my point is the same thing happens in government if not worse.

2019-01-24 10:35:09 UTC

Maybe I didn't understand your hypothetical.

2019-01-24 10:35:34 UTC

My point is sure, some people will pretend to give aid but at least if they're doing it with private funds then it's their own money, not tax payer dollars.

2019-01-24 10:36:06 UTC

Or I suppose it's the funds of their donors or whatever nefarious source but that's another subject really.

2019-01-24 10:36:13 UTC

it's beside the point

2019-01-24 10:36:16 UTC

I think having A solution would be good for now. Younare worried about which solution is most efficient, delaying the response.

2019-01-24 10:36:49 UTC

The Patriot Act was a fast response.

2019-01-24 10:37:19 UTC

Sure govt might be corrupt. But fiximg the problem is worth more than the cost of the corruption

2019-01-24 10:38:30 UTC

So you want the US government to take control of the situation to set things straight?

2019-01-24 10:38:55 UTC

Cost/benefit, I don't mind the corruption, I do mind people forming more caravans.

2019-01-24 10:39:29 UTC

I think it is worth the trouble
