it's a genetic thing. there are people whose genetic makeup set there character up to be risk seekers and adventurers who try to push always foreward, taking the risks. These people are there to expand the reach of the species towards new resources and new fertile grounds. And then there are the people who are playing it safe, staying in the back, being more cautious and conservative. With this setup our species has eggs in every basket. If they find new stuff good for the species, if they die while doing so, we still have a secure population and vis versa.
