Anytime there is another hike, gun shooting, gym workout, reading session, etc I am there but getting together to eat at a restaurant or drink at bars is a waste of time IMO

I disagree. Social bonding is highly valuable, but I would def get involved if someone wanted to start a book club or a book burning club.

You can bond socially by going to the gym together, boxing, going camping, hiking, shooting range. It doesn't have to be a half-drunk political discussion in a pub.
