the problem with being certain your philosophical position is you can't accept the possibility of being wrong and thus come off is being incredibly arrogant.

2018-10-19 23:29:46 UTC

In Peterson's mine in his personal truth he is a hundred percent sure that he is correct.

2018-10-19 23:29:52 UTC

I much prefer ham sarris.

2018-10-19 23:29:59 UTC

I think peterson's willing to adapt

2018-10-19 23:30:01 UTC

but sometimes kinda

2018-10-19 23:30:02 UTC

forgets

2018-10-19 23:30:07 UTC

to listen

2018-10-19 23:30:10 UTC

happens to everyone

2018-10-19 23:30:34 UTC

His "stay sleeping" podcast is really insightful

2018-10-19 23:31:12 UTC

I would listen to Sam Harris more if I could stand his voice

2018-10-19 23:31:50 UTC

Just the sound of his voice fills me with unrelenting rage.

2018-10-19 23:32:02 UTC

Like, I totally get what Peterson is trying to get across. Makes perfect sense to me.

But he uses too much metaphysical language to get his points across, which turns some people off who aren't paying too close attention to the content of his message

2018-10-19 23:32:03 UTC

And I have nowhere to direct it because I can't disagree with him

2018-10-19 23:32:39 UTC

@Fitzydog my working theory is if you can't explain it to a five-year-old you are either trying to trick the person into agreeing with you or you don't fully understand the concept with which you are arguing with

2018-10-19 23:33:01 UTC

I think the issue is, Lexicon

2018-10-19 23:33:09 UTC

is that peterson has those in the titles of his 12 rules

2018-10-19 23:33:13 UTC

Yeah, but if you could explain any of this to a 5 year old, we wouldn't have come up with religion

2018-10-19 23:33:16 UTC

his 12 rules, stated as they are, are easy to follow

2018-10-19 23:33:26 UTC

the chapters are for the Big Brain Deep Think explanation

2018-10-19 23:33:33 UTC

of why you should follow them and the full details of the rules

2018-10-19 23:33:47 UTC

I have read the book I completely disagree with the philosophy.

2018-10-19 23:33:59 UTC

I know for a fact that those 12 rules will not work for everyone.

2018-10-19 23:34:18 UTC

In fact some people with great drive and people with little Drive will actually be harmed by trying to follow those rules

2018-10-19 23:34:33 UTC

@flyingfoxel Like, there's a reason the NPC meme exists. You think those people its based on have any ability to understand the complexities of the human psyche in complete detail?

Or *want to?*

2018-10-19 23:35:07 UTC

That's fair, Lexi

2018-10-19 23:35:11 UTC

Everyone's different

2018-10-19 23:35:20 UTC

That's what I'm trying to get at the book is a circlejerk if you're already conscious enough to pick up the book in the first place you probably don't need it.

2018-10-19 23:35:22 UTC

I think in your head, you're inadvertently strawmanning his argument

2018-10-19 23:35:30 UTC

oof lexi

2018-10-19 23:35:33 UTC

that's a big oof

2018-10-19 23:35:40 UTC

frigid take

2018-10-19 23:35:54 UTC

I mean, if its an antidote for chaos, it kinda assumes that chaos is the problem your having if you follow the book.

2018-10-19 23:36:08 UTC

Plus, you're conflating two different works of his into one, @flyingfoxel

2018-10-19 23:36:23 UTC

If it isnt your problem then it stands to reason the rules wont help much

2018-10-19 23:36:24 UTC

I'm talking generally about the person and when I mention the book I'm talking specifically about the book

2018-10-19 23:36:55 UTC

^

2018-10-19 23:37:00 UTC

I'm talking about Maps of Meaning

2018-10-19 23:37:09 UTC

If you've got a good grip on your life, you probably won't need 12 rules

2018-10-19 23:37:15 UTC

Virgin ww2 vs chad 7 years war.

2018-10-19 23:37:17 UTC

If your life is a clusterfuck it may do you some good

2018-10-19 23:37:48 UTC

There are people who literally thrive on chaos. Aswell which is something he doesn't really take into account. I know plenty of artists and people in the military who don't feel normal unless they are actively in some chaotic situation.
