I am not qualified for this but I do think that you may need a head doc if you think that you are having negative side effects from your experience. And mental trauma can take a long time before it shows it ugly face
I think the worst parts are, laying in bed, and everything is silent. And you keep wondering if you're gonna suddenly hear that gunshot. So you anticipate it and expect it. Then your scars start to itch and burn, which isn't possible since the nerves were destroyed.
it that in bed you have time to think. it why most mental breakdown happens at evening and night times

For months I was afraid of even having my own gun in plain view. Now I sleep with it next to me. Pointed away from the bed. I have gotten a bit paranoid lately, getting the shotgun out when I hear loud noises outside at night, and watching through the window.
At first it was fear that someone else would have a gun. Now it's fear that I won't, or someone will take mine.

at this point I think you may have some negative side effects of a trauma. look up if you have some kind of support group for people that have had similar experiences in your local area to help you out. and take note if you have some big changes in behaviour like excessive substances abuse or other means of actin out @EnderOctanus
but I'm far from any expert so I cant say what you are going to do or not to do

Also, I think that comic is actually calling the defense of the kid as racist. Black reporters keep getting interrupted, and at the end the guy says "got it white". Plus, the guy saying, "He came at them with a drum!" Is drawn to look manic and insane.
It is tricking someone into questioning their own sanity and perception.
