Yeah but most people aren’t great thinkers

2019-10-26 09:16:21 UTC

Thereby they can grow unlike most humans

2019-10-26 09:16:36 UTC

They possess *mind*, in the Aristotelean sense.

2019-10-26 09:16:46 UTC

A rare faculty amongst the mass.

2019-10-26 09:17:15 UTC

So, when I'm generous I consider all those to be proto-humans

2019-10-26 09:17:23 UTC

@WWM can you grow with only a bias forcing you

2019-10-26 09:17:28 UTC

not the urge to think

2019-10-26 09:17:38 UTC

what

2019-10-26 09:18:02 UTC

Can we grow with bias forcing us?
Rather than the positive impetus to think?

2019-10-26 09:18:07 UTC

yes

2019-10-26 09:18:20 UTC

not to entertain other thoughts

2019-10-26 09:18:27 UTC

whatever, I was (mostly) just joking

2019-10-26 09:18:29 UTC

So, bias being tradition, cultural impositions, etc?

2019-10-26 09:18:34 UTC

yes

2019-10-26 09:18:39 UTC

and I say mostly because I believe there is a small amount of cope in there

2019-10-26 09:18:40 UTC

lol

2019-10-26 09:18:40 UTC

instinct too

2019-10-26 09:18:49 UTC

is that a bad thing?

2019-10-26 09:18:51 UTC

The answer is no.

2019-10-26 09:19:01 UTC

If that's the *only* thing driving you, no

2019-10-26 09:19:04 UTC

You will stay in that box

2019-10-26 09:19:09 UTC

And defend against all comers

2019-10-26 09:19:31 UTC

But what if it's a really big box tho

2019-10-26 09:19:35 UTC

But

2019-10-26 09:19:37 UTC

Actually

2019-10-26 09:19:56 UTC

because id actually vouch for people having a bias

2019-10-26 09:20:14 UTC

because it shows they care in a way

2019-10-26 09:20:39 UTC

that they want to utilize science and not just make more of it

2019-10-26 09:20:49 UTC

or philosophy

2019-10-26 09:21:32 UTC

If we think to the early days of the Church, in its confronting Islam, we actually see how the formulations the Church fathers came up with to defend Christian dogma and policy *in the face of Muslim denial of revelation* actually helped lead to the Renaissance.

2019-10-26 09:21:39 UTC

But

2019-10-26 09:22:05 UTC

Those Fathers, from a defensive mode for sure, did strive outward towards new thought.

2019-10-26 09:22:22 UTC

das gud, mang

2019-10-26 09:22:23 UTC

So you can strive outwards into new thought from a defensive rather than exploratory disposition.

2019-10-26 09:22:52 UTC

But what if you just innovate your new thought constantly

2019-10-26 09:22:56 UTC

I know

2019-10-26 09:23:06 UTC

into something better and better

2019-10-26 09:23:18 UTC

just be aware of why you're on here

2019-10-26 09:23:19 UTC

and not other thoughts

2019-10-26 09:23:39 UTC

I don't quite know what you're asking

2019-10-26 09:23:42 UTC

Just build on your own bias
