where as in China it was the exact opposite, where the Emperor exercised direct power

2019-10-28 00:47:13 UTC

Sex for favors

2019-10-28 00:47:14 UTC

time to go boondock saints

2019-10-28 00:47:17 UTC

that's why I wouldn't call Japan an Absolute Monarchy tbh

2019-10-28 00:47:21 UTC

so for Mao it might be a cultural reason as well

2019-10-28 00:47:43 UTC

if you look up say Qin Shi Huangdi

2019-10-28 00:47:43 UTC

@Smoke aaaa all those ppl are dead fren your hunting ghosts

2019-10-28 00:47:48 UTC

<:black_pill:565703068478341151>

2019-10-28 00:47:48 UTC

he basically did everything himself

2019-10-28 00:47:54 UTC

Okay, I said they lasted for centuries. I didn't say they never collapsed. China isn't Socialist anymore. Soviet Union stopped being Socialist long before it collapsed. My point is, you give Communist dictators absolute power, they run shit into the ground. Why did Monarchs never go full commie, and centralise everything? And run shit into the ground? What was their main incentive to delegate tasks to others, give people more breathing room?

2019-10-28 00:47:56 UTC

and he micromanaged all sorts of details

2019-10-28 00:48:04 UTC

including things like mobilizing the army for war

2019-10-28 00:48:17 UTC

same thing for other Emperors like Hongwu and Yongle, during the Ming Dynasty

2019-10-28 00:48:25 UTC

well I'm sure there are many traffickers out there. I'm still learning the story

2019-10-28 00:48:28 UTC

in fact neither Hongwu or Yongle ever had a prime minister

2019-10-28 00:49:07 UTC

in China it is customary for everything to be one giant apparatus or bureaucracy

2019-10-28 00:49:18 UTC

with the various ministers acting like an extension of the Emperor

2019-10-28 00:49:28 UTC

usually when ministers had their own say

2019-10-28 00:49:36 UTC

it was a sign that the state was doing badly 😄

2019-10-28 00:49:44 UTC

@Weaboo Kempeitai u can look at other causes tho

2019-10-28 00:49:46 UTC

ut oh

2019-10-28 00:49:51 UTC

and/or that the Emperor was an incompetent

2019-10-28 00:50:05 UTC

@SPQR from new mm?

2019-10-28 00:50:08 UTC

like for instance, you could look at the population pressure or the speed of transfer of information

2019-10-28 00:50:21 UTC

the postindustrial changes were pretty wild

2019-10-28 00:50:23 UTC

yes that is another aspect

2019-10-28 00:50:31 UTC

Chinese Emperors had monopoly on information

2019-10-28 00:50:32 UTC

so I wouldn't chalk anything up to just being 'the system'

2019-10-28 00:50:40 UTC

and kept extensive records, to an autistic level

2019-10-28 00:51:03 UTC

also, these societies regularly collapsed, idk why you associate monarchies with stability

2019-10-28 00:51:04 UTC

it was said that the census conducted by Qin Shi Huangdi could tell every detail about millions of subjects

2019-10-28 00:51:19 UTC

seeing as this was in like 200 BC it is actually really impressive

2019-10-28 00:51:19 UTC

there was an average of like a civil war every century

2019-10-28 00:51:21 UTC

" It does not matter is the cat is white or black as long as it catches the mice " is what I think Deng Xiaoping said

2019-10-28 00:51:24 UTC

for these societies

2019-10-28 00:51:40 UTC

@Nerthulas tbh I don't think it was other causes, it was absolutely the Socialist system, which exasperates environmental pressures like population or poor harvest. No Socialist state is full-Socialist anymore, most inevitably transition to decentralisation and market economies out of necessity, North Korea is undergoing that transition right now.

2019-10-28 00:52:41 UTC

market economies yes, decentralization no

2019-10-28 00:53:21 UTC

Darth does this all day

2019-10-28 00:53:27 UTC

JF's debating Darth Dawkins guys

2019-10-28 00:53:30 UTC

they are basically transitioning to the prerevolutionary system lol

2019-10-28 00:53:35 UTC

And Darth is in full aggression mode
