There were slaves who served as body servants and cooks, and slaves who were forcibly enlisted into auxiliary roles, such as cleaning and reloading canons. I've read of very few documented cases of slaves actually armed and serving in combat roles.

yh

2019-11-02 21:02:37 UTC

they only enlisted slaves as a last resort

2019-11-02 21:02:47 UTC

they knew they wouldnt last long in the first stages of the war

2019-11-02 21:02:52 UTC

they only got lucky

2019-11-02 21:03:12 UTC

you realize the average iq of slaves were not quite high, they didn't pick them for their smarts

2019-11-02 21:03:41 UTC

The Confederacy should've waited until industrialisation phased out slavery before seceding.

2019-11-02 21:04:14 UTC

oh wow, you don't know much about this do you

2019-11-02 21:04:14 UTC

sheeeeeeeeeeeeet

2019-11-02 21:04:23 UTC

What?

2019-11-02 21:04:40 UTC

you act like you know a lot about things you just learned

2019-11-02 21:04:43 UTC

@Weaboo Kempeitai they seceeded because they feared lincoln would outlaw slavery regardless

2019-11-02 21:04:59 UTC

it was state rights period .

2019-11-02 21:05:03 UTC

slavery was being phased out

2019-11-02 21:05:13 UTC

until the cotton gin was invented

2019-11-02 21:05:45 UTC

i guess it could be argued about whether or not that was an idustrialized technology

2019-11-02 21:06:21 UTC

but basically it made it economically viable to still use slave labor

2019-11-02 21:07:13 UTC

he knows what the south should have done to win

2019-11-02 21:07:58 UTC

Is IQ that important in war? Literally give slaves guns, send them at the enemy as canon fodder, or don't, go Stalin on them and use slaves as meatshields.

2019-11-02 21:08:54 UTC

just keep shooting ghetto

2019-11-02 21:09:12 UTC

you have to get them to follow insructions though

2019-11-02 21:12:32 UTC

If you can pick cotton, you can use a gun, and iirc the harlem hellfighters were a highly decorated unit during WW1 and WW2, and they were largely made up of blacks.

2019-11-02 21:12:59 UTC

is that the unit spielberg made a movie about?

2019-11-02 21:13:05 UTC

The 369th Infantry Regiment, not sure.

2019-11-02 21:13:10 UTC

tuskegee airmen?

2019-11-02 21:13:22 UTC

that was almost 100 years after slavery though

2019-11-02 21:13:48 UTC

they weren't just low iq in slave days, they were kept stupid as possible

2019-11-02 21:14:37 UTC

pluss, being next to a slave was demorlizing for white men

2019-11-02 21:14:46 UTC

So, basically, slaves wouldn't've made viable soldiers. The few slaves who did serve in the Confederacy were far more educated (cooks, house servants).

2019-11-02 21:15:23 UTC

no, your right, the whole fucking war would have been won if the confedercy used slaves

2019-11-02 21:15:25 UTC

hot take

2019-11-02 21:15:32 UTC

Sweet

2019-11-02 21:15:37 UTC

But then what?

2019-11-02 21:15:38 UTC

you should write an article about it and put it on buzzfeed

2019-11-02 21:15:42 UTC

2019-11-02 21:15:43 UTC

2019-11-02 21:15:54 UTC

2019-11-02 21:16:22 UTC
