It depicts an angel praying into the void in the original, in a Minecraft context it works in a literal sense because the angel is praying into something that physically speaking represents infinite death, thus it can be seen as a plea for the souls of the lost who have fallen into oblivion. In the original, I'd reckon it's some pretentious postmodern statement about the death of god or some such nonsense.
