what does that have to do with this again?
why do you feel the need to defend theft so much?
If the law makes something illegal that is indistinguishable from someone doing a legal thing, it's not a law it's a joke
I see what you're saying
But how is copying digital material and using it a legal thing
Because I don't understand people who think it's theft when it bears no resemblance in anything but what record companies have desperately tried to promote to stay relevant far past their due date
You do not have a right to listen to music
People patronize artists, it's not about taking profit. Artists put art out to be listened to, and if someone thinks it's worth paying for they pay for it. Otherwise they never see a dime. If people did not pirate music, nobody would listen to anything that wasn't on the radio. Piracy is no different than streaming with adblock, beyond the fact that it lends backwards compatibility to periphery devices
Are you talking about like radio stations?
The default should be "im not entitled to this" and then you find evidence that you are allowed to have it.
Not start with "I want this and now I need to justify not taking it"
like what are the things people want to pirate
movies
music
programs
books
there's no reason why you deserve these things
And like 97% of countries recognize intellectual property
so if you are using their property, why would you be entitled to use it?
well, it's because they either said you could, or you paid for it
for the example of your friends music you of course can listen to it with your friend, and your friend can lend it to you
this is how libraries work
they pay for each digital license
and if they don't have enough licenses someone has to wait
and radio stations pay to use it
Just because everyone does it doesn't mean that it's okay, and just because it's super easy, that also doesn't mean that it's okay
and with that example of water, water is something you are entitled to, you need it to live (and any such law would obviously be a sin to pass or make) so of course it's okay to still drink water
The only time when we are allowed to break the law is when it breaks the moral law
eg civil rights stuff
Again
it's theft, there are people who made the material, they created the intellectual property and you are not giving them what is due
and there could be cases like getting a book for school when you're super poor or something
but that doesn't change the morality of the act, merely the culpability
it is always wrong
Intellectual property is mostly a meme
<:really:602687746842165248> okay let's hear it
It's useful to keep people from stealing credit for the work of others, but when you're talking about imaginary strings of self replicating numbers it's a joke
They came up with an idea
Anything released on the internet should basically be considered public domain
it's on a computer
If you only want paying listeners release exclusively on vinyl
