I think it might be a difference in Western vs Slavic
Or maybe just differs by household
But usually in etiquette, the rules are there to force you to think of others before yourself. So if you practice it properly, they will have some respect for you.
Also going out of your way to introducing yourself to strangers at parties and stuff
I can't recall quite how I picked those up.
My house is quite firmly working class, so not many of the more nuanced rules were there.
But somehow, I'd hear of one from some place or another, and over time drop it into my behaviour.
My mother taught me manners and etiquette, it has indeed helped a lot
Girls always bring that up when complementing you
Not the right ones though lol
Why The eksdee
Very funny wasn’t it?
Oof.
Tough crowd.
European knife and fork handling is superior to American change my mind.
As in the way they use it to eat?
Yeah, I don’t get Americans switching the fork every time they want to eat
You can use the left hand without issue
They do it to artificially bloat their boring conversations.
😏
But it’s rather complicated to change hands every bite
I use my fork with my left hand but I hold it like the knife
Face down?
People make fun of me for it sometimes lol
That's superior.
Yeah
Yeah it seems I have more control that way
One caveat to the manners thing might be the gender based stuff
E.g. holding the door open for women
I don't always do that with western women
How is that a caveat?
Huh.
I thought that was common practice with everyone not insane.
If I can make it not look like a gender based thing then I do it
Because american women can be weird about it
I had the feeling when I would do that kind of stuff in high school that it made me look like I was trying too hard or something
I’m used to handle the fork on the left habd face down as well
Or it might have just been my old nice guy neckbeard mindset of "why don't they appreciate me look at what a gentleman I am"
It’s just how things work
lol
