potential cannot make itself actual, i.e, things need causes

2019-04-23 22:30:47 UTC

so if everything needs a cause, then somewhere along the line there needs to be a reality which can cause yet is uncaused, or else you end up with an infinite regress

2019-04-23 22:31:03 UTC

Now from our experiences on Earth, the unmoved mover's premises and even its conclusion, seem to be true
P1) Everything that happens or exists must have a cause
P2) The universe began to exist
C) Therefore, the universe had a cause

In order to prevent infinite recession, one must assume there is a first cause, an unmoved mover. Now this argument alone can be used to justify the belief in an unmoved mover, HOWEVER it does not justify the believe that the unmoved mover is
1) sentient and omnipotent
2) Still in existence
3) Infallible

2019-04-23 22:31:43 UTC

Those are infered, along things like univity and perfection

2019-04-23 22:31:47 UTC

well to start at number 2

2019-04-23 22:32:33 UTC

if the unmoved mover is purely actual, and not potential, it couldn't not exist since that would make it potential

2019-04-23 22:35:48 UTC

as for omnipotence, if the unmoved mover is not omnipotent that would mean there are unrealised potentials. This cannot be since it is purely actual

2019-04-23 22:38:31 UTC

as for sentient, to create ex nihilo/be the first cause requires an act of the will.

2019-04-23 22:39:13 UTC

Not to mention that we can't create sentience from non-sentience

2019-04-23 22:39:19 UTC

yes

2019-04-23 22:39:27 UTC

or create full stop without sentience

2019-04-23 22:39:36 UTC

technically only God can create, we can only make

2019-04-23 22:39:54 UTC

I've got a test in 20 minutes but ill continue after

2019-04-23 22:40:01 UTC

oh ok

2019-04-23 22:40:03 UTC

good luck!

2019-04-23 22:40:09 UTC

thanks

2019-04-23 22:40:13 UTC

imma gonna sleep

2019-04-23 22:40:14 UTC

im tired af

2019-04-23 22:40:31 UTC

God bless

2019-04-23 22:41:36 UTC

Regarding infallibility, I say that it can refer to two things. One related to knowledge, a case in which the unmoved mover doesn't lack any knowledge, being the mover and cause of everything. Related to what is good for something from its given nature and origin, God, not being originated form something but origin and cause of everything, is rather what defines goodness and the cause by which we ultimately perceive goodness

2019-04-23 22:42:11 UTC

yeah, I wasn't sure what was meant in this context by infallible

2019-04-23 22:42:35 UTC

Okay

2019-04-23 22:42:43 UTC

What's this whole argument about the flood about

2019-04-23 22:42:49 UTC

I'm late

2019-04-23 22:43:05 UTC

Typical obsession with the flood and whatever

2019-04-23 22:43:13 UTC

So from what I gather, @Riley is a non-believer?

2019-04-23 22:43:22 UTC

2019-04-23 22:43:38 UTC

The flood doesn't matter in regards to proving whether god exists lol

2019-04-23 22:43:47 UTC

Going to sleep, very late here

2019-04-23 22:44:02 UTC

Thats what I said

2019-04-23 22:44:48 UTC

It can be literally literal as a global flood, as a metaphor, or as an event that actually occured/has basis in historical events (maybe a regional flood) but was dramatized in order to better convey spiritual truth.

2019-04-23 22:44:53 UTC

But it doesnt matter

2019-04-23 22:44:59 UTC
2019-04-23 22:45:04 UTC

You're rite

2019-04-23 22:45:18 UTC

Non-believers <:bruh:569616839340982272>

2019-04-23 22:45:27 UTC

At the end of the day, what matters is the ressurection

2019-04-23 22:45:31 UTC

That was what swayed me

2019-04-23 22:45:52 UTC

People don't just put down their entire lives and travel all over the world just to die.

2019-04-23 22:46:22 UTC

I don't think St. Thomas would've left Israel and travelled all the way to India to be speared all for the sake of a lie

2019-04-23 22:46:28 UTC

He felt Jesus's wounds.

2019-04-23 22:47:17 UTC

St. Paul, Roman citizen and persecutor of Christians, wouldn't travel all over the Mediterranean only to be beheaded by the Emperor for the sake of a lie.
He saw God.
