On purpose.

2019-05-14 18:16:36 UTC

I'll talk about it with a priest. Right now I am unconvinced and I trust the Lord my God to guide me to the Truth, so that my soul will be tucked away with Him and be written in the Book of Life.

I will also consult my elders.

When in doubt, it is a nice idea to see if there was a very prominent idea in the earliest Church

2019-05-14 18:17:48 UTC

Calling clerical celibacy "traditions of men" is in itself a tradition of men

2019-05-14 18:17:56 UTC

It doesn't have to be strictly decisive, but if you see there are many writtings against a position, explicitely and clearly, it should be something to consider

2019-05-14 18:17:58 UTC

Also, when in doubt, BEGOME ORDODOGS :DDD

2019-05-14 18:18:21 UTC

Orthobro, do your priests marry?

2019-05-14 18:18:27 UTC

And have children

2019-05-14 18:18:48 UTC
2019-05-14 18:21:16 UTC

We just ask for this discipline, ONLY for a positon of special holyness, that requires special dedication. It is pointless to say that we cant have this requirement as if it contradicted a verse that refers to forbidding marriage, when people are free to not to pursue this position

2019-05-14 18:22:12 UTC

It says in the previous chapter that bishops have wives and children. It never changes the subject.

2019-05-14 18:22:13 UTC

Orthodox have married priest though I don't know the detail. Orthobro said up above that the Bishops are pulled from celibates

2019-05-14 18:22:37 UTC

Do any of you understand my hesitation?

2019-05-14 18:23:06 UTC

I can see why the passage would be confusing without historical context yes

2019-05-14 18:23:27 UTC

Back then it would be the case that someone who was ordained bishop had a previous marriage, that chapter merely refers to the fact that a bishop should be a person with integrity, which excludes people with more than one wife

2019-05-14 18:23:46 UTC

But you have the two oldest and largest Christian branches in agreement on it.

2019-05-14 18:24:21 UTC

If a verse mentions that a bishop must be a good person, it is normal then to ask for the most holy choice of virginity

2019-05-14 18:24:41 UTC

Noone in those first days were already closely celibate, so if they constrained themselves they'd have no priests or Bishops

2019-05-14 18:25:10 UTC

They also used to have a way for a person to become Bishop out of popularity

2019-05-14 18:25:11 UTC

1 Thessalonians 2:11

2019-05-14 18:25:11 UTC

Otherwise you would be implying that Paul is saying that we cant ask for that much goodness to a bishop, precisely when setting requirements of goodness for a bishop

2019-05-14 18:25:12 UTC

**1 Thessalonians 2:11 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)**

```Dust
<11> As you know, we dealt with each one of you like a father with his children, ```
2019-05-14 18:25:26 UTC
See St. Ambrose of Milan
2019-05-14 18:26:05 UTC
Alright. I am done here for the day. I love you all in our Lord Christ. I will consult my Elders and the Priest, and read the book he recommended.
Otherwise we're just going to talk ourselves in circles.
I hope you all have a good day. I pray for the Lord's guidance, and if you have been led astray I will pray for you.
2019-05-14 18:26:38 UTC
Good day bruh
2019-05-14 18:28:05 UTC
Is Remus secretly Daniel Judd?
2019-05-14 18:28:20 UTC
That's the impression I'm getting.
2019-05-14 18:28:32 UTC
Does anyone else replaced Saint with based in casual conversations?
I.e. Based John of the Cross
2019-05-14 18:28:57 UTC
Means the same thing, essentially. Only Saint means you were so based you got into Heaven.
2019-05-14 18:28:59 UTC
I don't care even if he is secretly the pope lmao
2019-05-14 18:29:24 UTC
St. Chav
2019-05-14 18:29:27 UTC
2019-05-14 18:29:33 UTC
Mormons are heretics
2019-05-14 18:29:42 UTC
*heathens
2019-05-14 18:30:07 UTC
There are some people who are mormons without even knowing what they have gotten themselves into, truly sad
2019-05-14 18:30:19 UTC
Elders are a Church of Christ thing.
2019-05-14 18:30:30 UTC
Are Mormons and LDS the same thing? I forget.
2019-05-14 18:30:32 UTC
98% sure Mormonism is a failed Jonestown
2019-05-14 18:30:33 UTC
And when you start showing them the UTTER insanity that is mormonism, many of them say
2019-05-14 18:30:35 UTC
Yeah we're not mormons, we criticize
them.
2019-05-14 18:30:52 UTC
"b-but the LDS offcial website doesnt say that, so it doesn't count"
